Jumblelaya: a Passion for Pretty

Jumblelaya is one of the earliest online vintage shops, established in 1997. We have survived the ups and downs of small business ownership for good reason: a single-minded passion (some would say obsession) for finding and featuring some of the very best, prettiest vintage. Our focus is ca. 1930s - 1950s, but we also stock select later pieces. We have traveled as far as Belgium and France and as close as our historic neighborhood here in the glorious Pacific Northwest in our endless quest to bring home the beautiful and share it with you.

Our studio is currently housed in one of the oldest heritage brick buildings in the region and located conveniently on the banks of the Columbia River just off I-5. We buy as well as sell, and we are always looking for great 1960s and older vintage garments. Visiting metro Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA? Make an appointment to see our collection and come say hi!

We ship items every 2-3 business days unless we are on a buying trip (this will always be clearly announced on front page of shop). Expedited/Express shipping is usually available for an additional fee. PLEASE contact us before purchasing any item(s) you need expedited.

Be sure your Etsy address is correct and up to date when placing an order. We are not responsible for lost or damaged items, but if you would like to purchase insurance for your item, let us know at time of purchase.

Buyers outside the US: We love you! Please be aware, though, that you are responsible for any taxes, VAT fees, or other fees imposed by your country. If you do not pay these fees, tems may be returned to us by your postal service. You will be responsible for any re-shipping costs. Items returned to us for any reason that you do not pay to reship in a timely manner (30 days or fewer) will be considered abandoned.
Refunds and Exchanges
Our authentic vintage garments are between 20 to 80 years old, and almost all were worn and used by their previous owners, and sometimes even passed through multiple generations. Please be familiar with the nature of vintage clothing and expect normal signs of age and use, especially in the older pieces. Very rarely does vintage look brand new and perfect, but that's part of its inherent charm and authenticity.

We do not accept returns (except for a major error in our listing) OR offer retroactive discounts for any reason. Items are all sold as-is.

Our vintage garments are each carefully examined and graded as follows:

Excellent -- few to no flaws or issues
Very Good -- may have a minor flaw or two that doesn't alter the overall look, wearability, or appeal of the garment, may show more wash wear and age than Excellent
Good -- a bit more flawed than the above, though generally still wearable, good for everyday casual wearing
Fair -- may be best for costume, theatre, or reworking; may be too fragile to wear or best for display

Returns -- It's rare that we make a major error of some kind in our garment's description, but we are only human and do handle and describe hundreds of unique garments a year. :) We are reasonable people and graciously accept returns in case of major error. Garment should be returned within 7 days of receipt, unworn and in the same condition as sent, with any tags still attached. Items sent outside this time window are not eligible for refunds or exchanges. Items that have been worn are also not returnable. No exceptions.

No refunds for improper fit, buyer's remorse, variations in monitor colors, etc. We're here to help, so ask questions to assist in shopping wisely.

Exchanges -- we realize that sometimes items just don't fit quite right or work out for reasons outside of everyone's control. In these cases we may accept unworn garments back for store credit. Store credit must be used within 6 months of the sale date. Please mark your calendar and shop within this generous timeframe since your credit will expire at the 6 month mark. Exchanges are provided as a courtesy, so shop credit cannot be used on either sale items or new-to-shop items that have been in shop for less than 48 hours.

All sales final on any sale or discounted item, layaways, or exchanges.
Additional policies and FAQs
We can provide additional photographs, measurements, history, or information if you convo us. We clean most garments and note this in condition report. We are a smoke-free but not dog-free home.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get this dress, but in my size?

Sorry, each garment in our shop is authentic vintage, dating from between 20 to 80 years old. We generally only have the one piece shown. We do not sew these items ourselves.

If you love it and it fits, consider buying it, since it's unlikely you'll find it again easily.

I have vintage to sell. Interested?

If it's older than, say, 1964 OR if you feel it fits our shop's aesthetic, absolutely! We pay fairly, generally 1/3 of retail, sometimes even more. Shoot us a note or set up an appointment to sell if you are in the Portland, OR metroplex!

I love this, but I need more time to pay for it. Do you offer layaway?

Sure do! Convo us for an info sheet about it.

Can I come try this on in person? Shop your collection?

We do not have a brick-and-mortar shop, but we do have a private studio located on the banks of the Columbia River, directly across the river from Portland, OR. We offer LIMITED appointments currently, due to time constraints. But if you are serious about a piece or pieces you see, let us know and we'll set something up. Shop inventory is generally not kept in the studio, so you'll need to let us know ahead of time which garments you'd like to see in person.
