Wait-- a stuffed what?

I started by making things for friends-- the usual story. It took a while before I could believe the things I made could be appreciated by people who weren't my loved ones.

Stuffed animals are alright-- but there's something so wonderful about using that form of building for inanimate objects. I believed I could make vegetables and fruit cuddly, and make people laugh too. I view sewing as soft engineering, and love new opportunities for building.

I didn't start sewing until I was in my early 20s. My grandmother was a master seamstress, but she died when I was little and I never got to sew with her. I think of her a lot, though I barely knew her. I like to pretend we'd have gotten along well making stuff together. My big veggies would have made her laugh, though she'd be confused about what purpose they could possibly serve.

Have you ever had an idea that you thought was too strange to utter out loud? That is my purpose as a maker. I am the ear you should whisper that in, and when I repeat it out loud it will become something you can hold in your hands. Isn't that the power of the internet, to harness the creative power of the whole world, cross-indexed with ideas and money? I am proud to be part of a network that makes ideas reality.

People sometimes ask me, "Are you a vegetarian?" Well, yes I am, but that's not why I make giant vegetables. Here's a little-known fact: there are lots of vegetables I can't stand, and I'm a really picky eater. Mushrooms? NOOOOOOOO! My favorite vegetable is asparagus (it is like a green french fry) and endive (lettuce Fritos) and my fave fruit is the strawberry.

A stuffed carrot is the opposite of a stuffed bear. That strangeness makes me happy. I have done other soft sculptures outside of produce, and look forward to hearing what you want made real. Come on, don't be shy.

Making giant vegetables and fuzzy things in San Jose! I taught myself to sew starting in 2006 and I learn more every year. I love plants, watercolor, small cakes, etymologies and giving people sour looks when they interrupt me reading.

Stuffington Bear Factory doesn't just make bears-- they make my lemons! After I couldn't keep up with demand for Large Lemons, they helped me take it up to the next level. I'm glad to get help and give my business to a US factory.

Added 8/16/20--

To be explicit, masks are intimate items and can't be returned. please take a look at the measurements listed on the item (at the bottom of the description). You can also look at many people who have sent in photos wearing the masks to see if it's the kind you want to wear.
If you realize you've made a huge mistake directly after paying, just contact me and I'll give you a full refund. After you have received a shipping confirmation, though, consider yourself the proud owner of a Jumbo Jibble. I will send you a note that I've received your order within 24 hours of purchase, and you will be notified as soon as the item ships.

Please take care to note in the shipping information of each item how long an item takes to ship out. That includes the time from ordering to creation to being shipped. Some items may be ready to ship within a day, while made-to-order items may take 1-4 weeks. If I am making a custom item for you, I will be sure to let you know how much time it will take between designing and making the item.

For gift items, I will happily ship straight to the giftee as well as include a personal note as requested. Please leave your desired words in the Note to Seller at checkout.

Most DOMESTIC items are shipped USPS First Class (3-5 days) or Priority Mail (1-3 days). My very large items like the Giant Carrot Body Pillow and Pickle Pillow, or large orders of pillows, will be sent Standard Post (6-9) to save money on your side. Tracking is included in your shipping confirmation. Shipping upgrades are available on all items-- but please convo me if you see any information missing.

Priority shipment options are set for individual items. I pick the lowest cost to the customer. Most unicorn horn items are sent in flat rate boxes.

Once tracking shows the package is in the care of USPS, I no longer have control over its movement. If a package cannot be delivered due to a wrong address, buyer is responsible for re-shipment postage. If you have had problems in the past, please have shipment sent to your place of business.

Please make sure your package may be delivered to a secure location. Customers are responsible for Items lost or stolen from your premises after delivery by USPS.

INTERNATIONAL orders are sent USPS First Class International by default. Note that this does not include tracking info past US borders. Choose the Priority upgrade for faster shipping (6-10 days) and tracking info.

Regarding First Class International shipping: Depending on the service in your area, your package could arrive within 10-14 days, but please allow 4-6 weeks for international deliveries before resending/refunding for non-delivery. If you'd let me know when you've received it- I keep track of the shipping times for various countries to help future (and repeat) customers.

Notice to EU Customers: VAT (Value Added Tax) is a fee levied on commercial goods. You can find more information about VAT here:

Please do not ask me to mark commercial packages as gifts on the Customs forms. This is illegal and puts both parties at risk.

RESTOCKING FEE (Regarding Unpaid Customs Fees)

If your package is addressed to a EU country, you will have to pay VAT charges to your own country. Customers who do not want to pay these fees to their government must cancel their order BEFORE SHIPMENT. A 15% RESTOCKING FEE is taken from the refund for any item sent abroad and returned for unpaid charges. Items held up in customs for unpaid charges are returned to me, but may be held up for months. Items in limbo can't be sold, and my two hands can only make new products so fast. This fee is not to make new revenue, but to encourage customers to make smart decisions that save us both time and annoyance.

Though some packages sent Standard Post or International First Class arrive much sooner than the maximums listed, I allow the Post Office 2 weeks for domestic and 4-6 weeks for international deliveries before resending/refunding for non-delivery.

Thank you for understanding! The mail is a fickle service depending on what country it is going through (and sometimes what that country is going through!). Priority Upgrades are recommended to ensure faster delivery times.

Due to the inability to list shipping discounts beyond 2 items, shipping for 3 or more of the same item may be inflated. Overages will be refunded. If you want to order multiples of something, please contact me in order to see if there is a discount. I will quickly write you up a custom listing with exact shipping.

IMPORTANT NOTE: International buyers are responsible for any and all Customs Charges, Taxes & Additional Postal Fees

CUSTOM ITEMS: If you would like me to create for you something amazing that has never been in existence before, custom items start at $150. Sketches and discussion that lead to the beginning of a project are time included in the price of a custom item. Note on gift purchase: If you are sending an item as a gift, please make a note of it at check-out and write what you would like the note to say. If no information is left, I will omit a gift note. Frequently asked questions
Can I wash my pillow?

To keep a handmade item looking its best, handwash first. Always let air-dry.

You can machine wash most of my stuffed creations-- but only in a front-load washer. The agitator in a top-loader is too aggressive for the hand-stitched details.

Some specialized photo props may not be washable, but that is something that will be discussed case-by-case.

Is everything handmade?

The first 400 or so carrots were made by me with some help from my erstwhile assistant Nancy (hey Nancy!). After that, to keep up I partnered with the American Bear Company in Phoenix, AZ. They allow small designers to get batches as small as 50 pieces made in their woman-owned factory. My carrots, lemons, lime and blueberries are now made and shipped from there.

If that bums you out that it didn't come directly from me, I get that. Deciding to have an outside manufacturer make some of my products was a hard decision, made after constant hand-sewing gave me repetitive stress injuries. Every item in my store will say whether or not someone has helped me make it-- that's my promise!

Wholesale availability

I am prepared to fill wholesale orders for my large and medium carrots, blueberries, lemons and limes. Shipping is to be paid for by the buyer. If you would like anything else, please ask!

Custom and personalized orders

Want something special? Just ask- I love to make things in different colors, sizes, with arms, faces, pockets. A small charge is added to the price for color changes.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Because my items are so so big, I can't wrap them in a giant box and then put them in a slightly larger box. I do wrap them all in tissue paper and will include a handwritten gift card. For small items such as headbands, hats or masks, I wrap them cutely with tissue paper and washi tape.

What's the weirdest thing someone has asked for?

I don't think I can say because of the NDA, so I'll go with a mushroom cloud hand puppet or an anthropomorphized uterine fibroid.

Did I see your big carrot on TV once?

Twice! My Giant Carrot Body Pillow was talked about on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (Parker Posey won it at a white elephant part at Questlove's house!!!) and also as a prop on the last season of VEEP.

Why don't you put faces on things?

I like my creations to each have their own personality- the one you give it. If you would like a face on yours, let's talk about the exact face you want.

When is Winds of Winter coming out?

Geez, I don't know! What is up with that, J.R.R. Martin?
