Great pattern! I'm embroidering this onto a tote bag and giving it to my knitting bestie for Christmas!

Gorgeous pattern - in every way!
I found myself in the studio.
Soon after the birth of my daughter, I felt a need to find some part of myself that was not just "mommy," to discover again who I really was. Inspired by the online community of artists and crafters, I returned to the creative self I had been as a child.
I tried my hand at many different types of craft, and I eventually realized that the creative things I enjoyed most stemmed out of a love for drawing. I didn't like embroidering other people's patterns; I liked drawing my own. I didn't like using a pre-made rubber stamp; I liked designing and carving my own. Clearly, I really liked drawing, and my creative focus has shifted steadily in that direction ever since.
I have been a storyteller since my childhood, when I typed words on hot pink paper on my parents' typewriter. I later went to school for English/writing, and I now translate my strong sense of story into my artwork. Most drawings start with a simple pencil sketch. I then paint them using watercolor and a variety of media, or I scan them and color them digitally, using painterly techniques. Trees and interactions between children and animals are recurring themes in my work.
I am fortunate to have a room in our house dedicated to creativity. It's home to all of my art supplies, fabric, yarn, etc., and also to an antique piano that I enjoy playing when I can't get myself to focus.
I share the space with my kids--I managed to clear out two drawers for their supplies, no easy feat!--and together we sit at the table in the middle of the room, with jars of pencils and markers in front of us, and we create together. It's been a wonderful thing to share this activity with them, because I can do what I like with the people I love and not feel guilty about spending time on it!
Best of all, I feel like I've finally found myself through this creative process, realized more fully who I am. I am a mommy (and love it), and I am also an artist. I love that I get to share that, get to share my "stories" with you.
