ZenJumps Chainmaille creates whimsical jewelry for fantastical people, primarily in stainless steel and titanium, using a modern approach to medieval techniques. 💙Crafting Process💙

* First, the rings are tumble polished to clean & shine them up, as well as to remove any sharp edges or burrs they may have.
* Then, each ring is opened, woven, and closed a single ring at a time to create each intricate pattern.
* The titanium is colored using electricity. I create a solution made up of baking soda and distilled water, then run an electrical current through it. I then use this to anodize the titanium which creates an oxide layer on the surface. Different voltages will create different colors. Due to the anodizing process, there may be slight color variation from batch to batch.

💙 Guarantee 💙

I offer a guarantee that your piece will last. If anything happens to it, just contact me and I will make any necessary repairs.

💙 Shipping 💙

Each item is handmade by me and me alone. While I strive to get most items shipped with a quick turn around time of 1-3 business days, some orders will take longer to ship (up to 2 weeks).

I offer free standard within the US and use USPS First Class for most items, which normally has a 3-5 day transit time.

Please note, all timeframes listed are in business days and do not factor in weekends or holidays.

About ZenJumpsChainmaille

Sales 995
On Etsy since 2014

A modern approach to medieval techniques.

Now, what exactly do you think of when you think of chainmaille? Do you think of knights? Armor? Vikings, perhaps? You're definitely not wrong! There's so much history behind the craft and I strive to add a modern and elegant twist to the classic chainmaille armor we're all used to from history books and Renaissance Festivals.

My name is Jen and I'm the owner, designer, metal weaver, and everything else behind ZenJumps Chainmaille. I'm currently living just outside Raleigh, NC with my boyfriend and our four adorable cats. I started making chainmaille as a way to pass the time and take my mind off things in late 2014. Eventually I started selling my pieces to be able to afford more supplies, and in August of 2018 I transitioned into making chainmaille full time. While I do sell online, I also sell at a lot of different festivals, art shows, and conventions along the East Coast.

Most of my jewelry is made in stainless steel and titanium so that it will last a lifetime. I also do work some in aluminum - mostly my scalemaille fashion pieces. Drawing inspiration from fantasy books and movies I've loved growing up, I love to focus on designing pieces with elegant lines and fun, whimsical colors. Working with titanium scales, for example, always brings to mind mermaids and dragons because their almost iridescent colors.

Each item is made to order to your specifications to ensure that your new items are the perfect fit for you and your soul!

Hey there! I'm Jen - the owner, designer, and everything else behind ZenJumps Chainmaille. Working hard everyday to create the perfect custom pieces for you!

  • Lu

    Design Supurrvisor

Lu takes his job of design supurrvisor very seriously. He's always been interested in the arts and his hypocritical stare lets me know if something isn't quite up to his standards.

  • Gin

    Human Resource Supurrvisor

His main tasks are to make sure I get everything done by plopping himself down on my lap so I can't leave my desk for hours on end, and also enforcing his policy of frequent cuddle breaks.

  • Sugar Plum

    Customer Service Supurrvisor

Sugar is very friendly and personable which made her the best candidate for customer service supurrvisor. She's got a purr and a head bonk for everyone. She also makes the best biscuits - fresh daily!

  • Ally

    Quality Control Supurrvisor

This is just an honorary position - she really wants nothing to do with the shop. Ally would much rather nap all day!

Frequently asked questions
What doess ZenJumps mean?

Simply, it's a fun little play on my name (Jen Zumpetta). At a former job, I was given the nickname Zen because we had anywhere from 1-2 other Jens working there, so rather than calling me Jen Z I became Zen. That nickname stuck and I hung onto it. Then Jumps came by moving the misplaced J where the Z had been and shortening my last name a bit.
Fun fact! ZenJumps has a second meaning. I always say that chainmaille is my form of meditation. Picking up my pliers and weaving for a few hours always helps to relax me. It's my zen. And what is it that chainmaille is made out of? Jump rings!

How is all this made?

All my items are handcrafted by me a single ring at a time. Chainmaille is made out of links, called jump rings, that are created by coiling wire onto mandrels, then cutting the coils to turn them into rings. I then take the rings and open, weave, and close them individually to create the intricate designs and patterns.

All the pieces made in titanium I also anodize (or color) myself using electricity. I create a solution made up of baking soda and distilled water, then run an electrical current through it. I then use this to anodize the titanium which creates an oxide layer on the surface. Different voltages will create different colors. Due to the anodizing process, there may be slight color variation from batch to batch.

What metals do you use?

The vast majority of my items are made in 304 grade stainless steel. I also use quite a bit of titanium throughout my pieces that I anodize (color) using electricity. Some pieces, such as my apparel pieces, dice bags, etc., are made using aluminum for it’s light weight and bright & bold colors.

When will my order ship?

While I do have some items ready made in stock, most items are made to order. I strive to ship orders within 1-3 business days, however orders will on rare occasions take up to 2 weeks to ship. This is typically only if I don’t have all the supplies on hand and need to order in any components.

Where do you ship from?

Everything ships from Cary, NC.

Care instructions

Stainless steel and anodized aluminum are super easy to clean and very low maintenance! All you need is a little soap and water. I normally suggest using blue dawn dish soap and warm water.

For pieces made with anodized titanium, it is strongly recommended to remove to shower or swim to help the color stay vibrant longer. Since it is colored by creating an oxide layer without the use of dye, the colors could fade over time when exposed to harsh chemicals, such as chlorine.
