5 out of 5 starsThis hat is lovely! The colours are great and the knitting is wonderful. The double knitted edge makes it sturdy and it fits really well (I got a medium). In addition the hat is quite warm. Karen puts care into everything she does, I have a carpet as well and the quality of her items are excellent.

5 out of 5 starsI love everything about this purchase- the rug is beautifully woven, the packaging was top-notch-- sturdy outer box AND extra quality plastic slip-bag for rolled rug in shipping; was shipped promptly. But best of all is that Karen's young grand-daughters chose the colors and wove the rug- and on the most interesting antique Finnish loom (love that loom!). Wonderful to have the opportunity to support/encourage the work of young weavers and Karen. Fellow weaver here is very happy with this wonderful purchase. Check out her blog :-)! Absolutely Highest Recommendation.

About KarenInTheWoods

The main tools of my weaving studio, two antique Newcomb Studio Rug looms, both heavy and solid to beat firm rugs.
-
Using recycled product in my rugs to create new textures and styles. These are sock loopers, waste from a sock factory.
-
Adding the heavy duty rug warp to the looms takes a bit of skill, a lot of patience and a good dash of creativity.
-
Sometimes the creation of rugs can be a bit messy. Preparing rag strips is time consuming and necessary for good rugs.
-
The necessary tools of the job are prepared before I can even start to weave the rugs.
Weaver, Spinner and Knitter, all rolled into one
When I was a child of 10, I belonged to a 4-H group which toured nursing homes in Wisconsin, to entertain elderly residents with singing German Folk Songs to them.
Afterwards, we were to be “congenial” and visit with the audience. I wandered over to the corner of a community room where three women were working with some big contraption. They swooped me up and plunked me down on the bench. I was allowed to sit and help bang the beater back as they made rag rugs! That was it,
I was ADDICTED!
This weaving thing made such an impression on me. I went home and drove bunches of nails into a picture frame to make myself a loom. I fondly remember unraveling my brother’s favorite knit sweater to get enough yarn for weaving.
Always a fiber nut, I crocheted and sewed and cross-stitched and crafted all of my young adult life. But it was many years later for those creative weaving seeds to nurture and grow.
I have a marvelous husband to foster and support my creative needs, helping to refurbish my looms and he also builds my necessary weaving stuff!
I have a lovely little studio in a 100 year old National Folk Farmhouse near a tiny town in Wisconsin. My weaving creations flow off of my looms while I think of what I want to weave next.---- I am —– KarenInTheWoods.
