About katebuttery

Sales 77
On Etsy since 2018

Hello. I’m Kate. Welcome to my little part of the world.

Why does much of my work look like lotus root slices?

The Chinese word for lotus root is ‘ou’, and was on the menu for lunch every day during my six months working at the Gulangyu Organ Museum in Xiamen, China during 2017.

The naturally occurring patterns that occur in the ‘ou’ captured my imagination, as did the many delicious ways it can be eaten, as taught to me by my dear friend in China.

‘Ou’ to me means friendship, kindness, and sharing of stories and meals across cultures. The lotus root theme in my work is my way to extend the hand of friendship through my artwork to you.

Please enjoy.

With love,
Kate
