Announcement   Apifera Farm is a magical place, a real working farm, where artist Katherine Dunn communes with fields and creatures. There she paints, writes, and makes raggedy messes, along with being mother to a working flock of sheep and a field of lavender. Many of the items here are stuffed with the farm's own lavender bud. Her work is collected internationally and her art is showcased on Sundance. She writes a popular blog and has written/illustrated three books with more on the way.

The farm is also home to old and special needs goats, donkeys, ducks and more- known as The Misfits. http://apiferafarm.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_14.html

This book is a cameo experience of all that is wonderful about Katherine Dunn's world: her paintings, drawings, photography, soulful words, and of course her animal companions. My purchase came wrapped like a present...what could be more wonderful? I have followed Katherine's blog and FB now for several years, and seen snippets of what this book contains, but I am looking forward to delving quietly and deeply into this jewel -- with a cup of tea and (hopefully) a piece or two of pie. Thank you, Katherine. In time, I will own all of your books and maybe some original art too. ♡

About

Where art, animal and raggedy sewing abound

Katherine needed a place to sell her raggedy messes that she stuffed with the farm's lavender. So she started an Etsy shop. Her sewing is still raggedy but she is happy. Her art is a merging of her own essence with those of the barn animals that surround her- many adopted from rescues or needy situations.

Katherine began her art career in Minneapolis where she illustrated for clients such as Target, Neiman Marcus, Hallmark, Gourmet, and Wall St. Journal. Her work has received awards from Communication Arts, Print, American Illustration and Society of Illustrators. But writing has always been a passion too and when she moved to her farm in 2004 in rural Oregon, she was surrounded by new animal characters with stories popping up all around her. Her little donkey Pino is a favorite muse and stars in several of her illustrated pieces. He also hosts a giant Pino Pie Party every year where funds are raised for one of Katherine's big passions- helping senior and needy barn animals.

Her ever popular blog highlights her conversations with chickens and the loving cast of characters in her barnyard. Her first book, "Creative Illustration Workshop" [2010] was named third on the Top Ten Art Books by the US Amazon editors. She also is writing short pieces on Huffington Post. Her paintings are showcased on Sundance.
