Hello! Thank you for taking the time and care to learn a bit more about Kathryn Selbert Illustration. The studio is a one lady operation in New York City. Kathryn specializes in art prints, family art, wedding stationery, holiday cards and other details for your home and life. Her designs are illustrated and calligraphed digitally and with watercolor. Her artwork is influenced by her love of nature and design. Kathryn began designing stationery so she had an opportunity to create fun designs for all occasions that add a bit more joy to your everyday celebrations.

Returns and exchange details
Custom invites/menus and illustrations are nonrefundable - I don't accept returns or exchanges once I have started working on a custom projects. The cost of the item is the cost of my time, which I cannot recover. Please respect this.

Often, illustrations require your input at the edit/proof stage. Be prepared to create a written list of specific changes you would like at the proof stage. 'It doesn't look like me' isn't a specific request. Often the changes clients request to increase resemblence are never changes I would make on my own. Your input is valuable!

Invitations/Save the Dates/Menus/Holiday Cards: Before you receive print ready files you will receive a digital proof. Upon receiving the digital proof, please make sure wording, address, spelling, dates, or any other text errors or color preference are to your satisfaction. I make any corrections I see, but you are ultimately responsible for approving the final proof.
 I will make a reasonable amount of edits but may ask for an additional editing fee if your requests exceed what I usually allow. Making sure your references/text are correct when you first send them along limits the need for revisions.

Colors vary from monitor to monitor, so it is impossible to guarantee the exact color you see on your screen. When printed, exact colors and cut of the card are in the hands of the printer.
Shipping
All international orders and domestic guestbooks/items larger than 8.5x11 ship safely rolled in a tube to avoid damage. 8.5x11 prints ship flat domestically.

I ship all orders USPS First Class for domestic and international orders. Arrival time varies on location.

USPS First Class domestic orders generally take 2-5 business days to arrive, once shipped.

Shipping times on international orders cannot be guaranteed due to possible customs delays. If you are concerned about international arrival times for custom items, I recommend printing locally and just receiving a digital file.

Import taxes, customs duties, and/or fees imposed by the destination country are the buyers responsibility. I am unable to predict these fees.
Additional policies and FAQs
I work on a first come, first serve basis and operate with a revolving waitlist. I try to accommodate wedding orders with quickly arriving need by dates - please contact me to discuss if you feel your wedding date is sooner than I can accommodate.

All proof delivery dates are estimates based on my predicted schedule - not exact dates. You are always welcome to contact me and ask for an updated proof delivery date.

While I allow edits, they are a gift to you - not a privilege. Please be respectful of my time and understand that I have other projects I'm moving forward.

For holiday card and all custom orders please be patient in receiving digital files. The listed turnaround time is almost always correct.

I try to respond as quickly as possible to emails, etsy messages and edit requests - please exercise patience.

BUSINESS HOURS: I try to work 9-5, Monday-Friday. I do occasionally work on the weekends but do not reply to emails as quickly.

Custom family portraits are a representation of your family. While the nature of my style is to create the likeness of your family based on the photos provided, it is not realism.

All prints are shipped unframed. The frames shown in the image are only shown for visual purposes.

Frequently asked questions
What edits are allowed for custom cards and illustrations?

I allow small changes to appearances (ex:skin color, beard trim, hair color, dress color, text changes, change of bow tie to tie etc.) and text. I try to be generous with allowed edits but if your order requires a great deal of additional edits, I may request an additional editing fee.

Please try and provide current, completely forward facing photos taken in natural light.

Please be thoughtful when reviewing your image and try to think of specific changes you feel would help increase resemblence. 'Do it again' or 'this doesn't look like me' is not helpful. Your feedback is valuable and incredibly helpful!

These are drawings, not photos. If you want a perfect resemblence, I recommend using a photo.

Can you print my invitations/holiday cards for me? Can I just receive a digital file of a house portrait or guest book?

At the moment, I am only able to provide digital files and printing instructions - not printed cards, menus or invitations.

You can always receive just a digital file for guestbooks/house portraits/portraits - choose the digital file option at checkout.

Where should I send my photos and information after I place my purchase for a custom order?

When you are ready, please send your photos (as attachments or a zipped folder) to kathrynselbert@gmail.com. Instructions on how to order are in the description of each listing. If you can, please include your order number in your email.

Your text and other information you'd like me to have should be in the body of the email. The email you use will be the one I send your proofs to.

Please DO NOT send them via etsy conversations. Please do NOT send me your instagram handle in liu of chosen photos.

Totally forward facing photos that best represent each person taken in natural light are best. No sunglasses, hats or instagram/snapchat filters.

How do you send proofs?

Proofs are sent as attachments to the email address associated with your etsy account. PLEASE make sure this is accurate before placing an order or provide me with your preferred email address. I do not chase customers to review proofs.

What is your current turn around for custom items?

CURRENT TURN AROUND: The current turnaround for all custom items is 4-6 weeks for the first proof. Please factor in 1-4 days per revision round.

NEED BY DATES: Turn around times are estimated and not exact. Let me know when placing your order if you have a specific need by date. I will not know your need by date unless you tell me. You are always welcome to contact me and ask for an expected proof in date.

RUSH OPTIONS:

What kind of photos can I send?

Totally forward facing photos that best represent what each person currently looks like, taken in natural light are best. Try not to include photos with sunglasses, hats, taken from facetime or with instagram/snapchat filters.

You do not need a perfect group photo for portraits - just photos that best represent each individual. 1 great photo is always better than 20. Group photos are helpful for height differences.

All illustrations are based on the photos and written information you provide. Please send your photo references to kathrynselbert@gmail.com with your order # after you place your purchase.

Can you rush my proof?

Why does it take so long to receive a proof?

While it doesn't take weeks to draw a single image, I often have a revolving waitlist filled with 4+ weeks of orders.

The time to turn around a proof varies depending on the time of year, I always recommend ordering as far in advance as possible (even for Christmas!). Always check the 'ready to ship' time in the listing to see an accurate turn around time. Or email me! I try my best to respond as quickly as possible.

Holiday Cards: Can you provide a file of my family/house portrait without the holiday background?

Yes! Just remind me when you send along your photos/information. These will be sized 8.5x11

Holiday Cards: When is the last day you accept orders for holiday cards?

I usually close out orders for holiday cards on November 15th. If I have a particularly large number of orders I sometimes close earlier. I recommend ordering as early as possible! My schedule gets crazy.
