Kathy Burhans Jewelry

I am a self taught jewelry artist and have had a long journey of discovering the type of jewelry that resonates with me. It started with one of those bead looms when I was a kid. Later, I progressed to making earrings with balsa wood, glue and plastic beads! I started to take classes, wherever I could find them, and learned wire weaving, beading patterns, soldering and finally metal fabrication with riveted connections. I fell in love with this method (I'm kind of scared of torches!) and began creating the jewelry you now see. 5/1/17... ok, now I've gotten a lot more comfortable with fire! I've started setting stones and combining them with my love of riveting!

I live and work as an Occupational therapist in the beautiful and inspiring Santa Fe, NM. I love to hike, ski, eat (we have fabulous restaurants), check out to local art and shops and walk my buddy Austin...which is a full time job!

Santa Fe inspires me through its colors, flowers, textures, and rustic (but stylish) western feel. I think there is enough turquoise jewelry artists in the area ;-) and my jewelry adds a unique twist to the Santa Fe style!

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

Enameled pieces:
These need to be handled with care as they are glass in copper or silver. They will easy break if dropped on a hard surface!

Copper pieces:
I use a special sealant for all of my copper pieces to maintain the copper patina that I intended for each piece. It can eventually wear off especially on ear wires, inside of rings and bracelet backs. If you don’t like the darkened patina or the green on your skin, simply clean the area with alcohol or copper cleaner and paint over the area with clear nail polish!

Blue Patina Pieces:
I seal the Patina portion of each piece and this sealant should last the life of the jewelry. The patina is still sensitive to the sun and will fade with long exposure. Do not get wet either!

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my items come in a gift box suitable for gifting! I also include several of my business cards with each order.
