Because I'm bad at talking about my feelings...
I'm 28 and I'm an illustrator, author, hand-letterer, and stationery designer. I live in upstate NY where I run this one-lady show.
All of my designs are hand lettered and illustrated with ink pens, then scanned and vectorized in Illustrator. There, I add color digitally. After the designs are finalized, I have them printed locally on 100% recycled American-made paper. I bring home the prints to trim, fold and package everything myself, accompanied by lots of coffee and the supervision of my cat.
I've always made my own cards for friends and family, so it became very natural to start sharing it with everybody else. I like making sweet and cheerful things, and I always hope that my cards can bring a little happiness to people. I'm also pretty bad at talking about my feelings, so my cards usually capture things I want to say to people, but have a hard time saying them. I hear that some of my customers have felt the same way too, and use my cards to get special messages across. That makes me very happy inside.
I am inspired by almost anything that is hand drawn, whether it be lettering or illustrations. I love seeing this imperfect, human quality that comes out in hand drawn work, and it always makes me want to stop whatever I'm doing and start making more things.
We always hear others talking about how important it is and how lucky you are if you can make a living doing what you love. This is it for me. This is what I will gladly work on every single day.
