I absolutely love this mug! Service was amazing. It came super quickly, was packaged perfectly, and is a wonderful addition in my home. The mug is made really well - it's very sturdy and easy to drink out of and wash. The color is also beautiful! It is exactly what the picture looks like. I would definitely recommend purchasing from KatJerniganPottery! Thanks! :)

About

Handmade in the mountains of North Carolina.

I started making pottery during college. As an environmental studies major, I turned to ceramics as an escape and an outlet from the huge problems and concepts I was dealing with in my studies. It wasn't long till I found myself spending time in the studio late into the night and early on weekend mornings. For me, making pottery reminds me of our human ability to create something out of nothing. Eventually, I realized I couldn't NOT make pottery everyday. So, I quit my job and moved to a small town in the mountains of North Carolina to focus fully on crafting functional pieces. Now, I balance working as a naturalist and making pottery. I walk in the woods by day, and craft in the studio late into the night.

Whether given as a gift or bought for yourself, I want using my piece to remind you of positive things: that morning in the mountains drinking coffee with your loved one, fish taco nights with your cousins, or simply sharing desert with your friend. Let the piece take on its own meaning. Share food. Share art. Share stories.

For me, throwing functional pieces with clay is not only a form of artistic expression, it's also a way to incorporate art into our everyday lives. That's the beauty of functional art. It demands a reminder of its meaning repeatedly because you use it. Each of these one of a kind ceramic pieces are handmade in my studio in Burnsville, North Carolina. I spend time thinking about the form, coloring, and firing of each piece. My hope is for my pieces to find a space in your home, to be used frequently but also to be appreciated as individual works of art.
