Put simply: I make things.

I’m an artist, writer, and crafter working across disciplines to explore environmental and social issues through traditional craft techniques. My artwork, writing, and designs have appeared in galleries, magazines, theaters, craft fairs, and even on the streets of San Francisco in a tiny portable handmade studio on wheels. I find as much satisfaction exhibiting art in my friends' living rooms as I do in formal galleries and publications.

I published my first book, The Paper Playhouse: Awesome Art Projects for Kids Using Paper, Boxes, and Books with Quarry Books in January 2015. My blog, Made by Katrina, won the Country Living Blue Ribbon Blogger Award. And most recently I've been focused on teaching workshops in mending, slow fashion, and fiber arts to amazing students across the country.

I'm committed to maintaining an environmentally friendly studio and shop so I work with biodegradable, recycled, upcycled, or sustainable materials. I've created large-scale art installations and organized collaborations with dozens of artists and I exhibit a few times a year. After finishing my MFA in Creative Writing--where I spent most of my time in the Book Arts Studio on ancient letterpress equipment and hand binding books--I promptly opened this Etsy shop and started focusing on objects I could share. My work shifts from handmade toys, to small batch garments, to kits and tools that support sustainable crafting.

After a decade in Oakland, CA in 2015 my husband and I purchased a 200-year-old farmhouse in the Hudson Valley in NY and relocated our family to begin this lifelong dream of renovating an old house and converting existing barns into our future art studios. It's a slow process but one that brings great meaning to our attempt at a low-impact and handmade living. When I'm not in my studio I'm convincing my two small boys that fairies and unicorns are absolutely in our garden--they just have to be patient to see them.
