About

Put simply: I make things.

I’m an artist, writer, and crafter working across disciplines to explore environmental and social issues through traditional craft techniques. My artwork, writing, and designs have appeared in books, magazines, blogs, galleries, theaters, craft fairs, and even on the streets of San Francisco in a tiny house studio built by my husband.

I published my second book, Mending Matters: Stitch, Patch, and Repair Your Favorite Denim & More, with Abrams Books in October 2018 and my first book, The Paper Playhouse: Awesome Art Projects for Kids Using Paper, Boxes, and Books in January 2015. My blog, Made by Katrina, won the Country Living Blue Ribbon Blogger Award. Since 2013 I've been focused on mending, natural dyes, and sustainable style through teaching, writing, and advocating for Slow Fashion.

In 2015, after a decade in Oakland, CA, my husband and I purchased a 200-year-old farmhouse in the Hudson Valley in NY and relocated our family to begin DIY renovating the house and converting the barns into our art studios. In 2018, I started offering Slow Textiles Retreats in my private barn studio to small groups of students. When I'm not at work I'm likely in the garden with my young boys tending our chickens and bees.
