About

Crazy about indian designs and colors... :)

I knew absolutely nothing about painting on silk a few years ago but I had a crazy love for indian designs and colors!

After a year of experimenting with fabrics, paints and techniques I launched KavitaKriti. I was inspired by so many arts and crafts from India; so much to choose from! I decided upon re-creating embroidery styles through paint in my silk scarves with my first love, Chikankari (white thread embroidery). I painted my very first trial pieces with Chikankari motifs and also the very first few sold scarves.

Basically after that my imagination took flight... So far I have tried to recreate indian motifs such as peacocks, elephants, paisleys, mandalas and block prints in my scarves. I am forever in love with vibrant sari (saree) borders and you will find many of my scarves painted in this fashion. I am also learning more and more about the art of henna and try to incorporate some henna patterns in my scarves.

A dear piece discovered and imagined through this painting journey is my "Indian muse". I imagine her to be a beautiful indian woman adorned with beautiful jewelry and bindis,... and so was born my Indian Muse scarf wearing a gorgeous bindi!

There is still so much to do :) I am humbled and honored that I have this opportunity and even today I am thrilled and ecstatic when my designs are received with excitement. Thank You!

I am happy to share my home country's art through this wonderful medium. I package a bookmark with each of my hand painted scarves (sometimes even two or three) describing my sources of inspiration and I hope this simple gesture will promote the arts I am inspired by and continue to let them live and thrive.
