Announcement   Hello there! I'm Kayleigh O'Mara and I'm an illustrator and graphic designer - welcome to my shop.

I had a shop here previously, where I sold acrylic jewellery. I closed the shop down just over a year ago because I didn't feel my heart was in it anymore.

So I am starting my new shop, and this will eventually be filled with illustrated prints and other nice things. It will start off slow, but please keep visiting to see what new things have been added.

You can find me in lots of other places online including my website

About

Where I'm up to so far

Hello there! I'm Kayleigh O'Mara. I'm an Illustrator, designer and maker, originally from the northwest of England but now based in central London. I spend most of my time thinking up new ideas and scribbling them down in my sketchbook. When I'm happy with my drawings, I use them to design my jewellery, greetings cards, prints and stationery.

Although I work part-time at KLC School of Design, I spend my remaining four days each week keeping busy in my lovely little studio. Tucked away inside a beautiful old Victorian church, it gives me lots of workspace where I can spread out my things - I'm not the tidiest of workers, you see - so I can really get stuck into designing and making.

In one corner of my studio, you'll find a giant beast of a laser cutter, which helps me transform my line drawings into colourful laser-cut acrylic jewellery - brooches, earrings and necklaces mainly. It's a very technical piece of machinery but, when it isn't being a pain in the bum and causing me trouble, most of the time we get along just fine.

My background in illustration comes from a lifelong love of drawing by hand. When I was just a young girl living with my mum and dad, sister and brother near Oldham, I'd print cartoons from the internet and literally spend hours of my life copying them exactly. My favourites ones to draw were a German mouse called Diddl and those strange Bubblegum characters you used to see everywhere.

In 2006, I completed a foundation diploma in Art & Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. One year later, I went on to do a degree in Illustration at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). After graduation, I spent a couple of years working full-time at the Leeds branch of Habitat - it's sadly not there anymore - before moving down to London in October 2011. I absolutely love it here!

Now that I only work a part-time job, I have more time to concentrate on building my brand and getting my name about. I sell my creations to shops all over the UK, as well as on the internet - to the lovely, kind people who place orders through my Not On The High Street shop. I'm always working on new products, so please do pop back from time to time to see what I've been up to.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Kayleigh x

3 things I'm really proud of...

1. My illustrations have been 'Highly Commended' twice in the Macmillan Prize children's book competition. In 2009 and again in 2010.

2. When I once met Kate Nash after a gig in east London, she said she liked the Mirrored Raincloud Necklace I was wearing - so I gave it to her. The next day, she wore it for a BBC TV interview.

3. My laser-cut acrylic jewellery is stocked in the National Portrait Gallery's gift shop.
