About

Curious characters from a peculiar mind

As you can see my shop first opened in 2010...this was a little under a year after I had graduated from University with my illustration degree and I just stocked my shop with a limited number of my illustrated prints and cards. I felt a bit lost at this time and had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted to do with my creative career, so I abandoned my shop until January of 2016.

After a number of years of experimenting with different mediums and craft techniques it wasn't until the spring of 2015 that I began experimenting with creating spun cotton characters, which now make up the bulk of my Etsy shop. They were the perfect medium for me to bring my illustrative characters from my mind alive. With my life inspirations being the Victorian/ Edwardian era's, nursery rhymes and folklores, vintage children's books, I found that I could play on these ideas with this medium successfully well. These inspirations also follow through in my wonderfully imaginative illustrations which are now available to purchase as prints.

Each of my spun cotton characters are unique in themselves and a treasure to have, making them perfect to be made into family heirlooms. They come with a lovingly unique hand sculpted/ hand painted little face. Their bodies are made with wire wrapped with cotton and hand painted and decorated with ribbons, vintage laces, beads...basically bits and pieces that I horde and collect from antique fairs and charity shops! Each piece takes me around 2-3 loving hours to make.

This coming Christmas I am proud to say that some of my spun cotton characters will be on sale in Harrods. Keep your eyes peeled!
