My work is in private collections worldwide and in the art collections of Memorial Sloan Kettering and Marriott.

Printmaking is original unique artwork, handmade piece by piece by the artist - not a 'Print' as in reproductions, posters or other commercially produced imagery. Every single work on paper is uniquely yours and not like any other, hand signed. Most of my mixed media work is developed on printmaking work, pushing beyond the print into painting, drawing and collage. Enjoy the view and come again.

My print is absolutely wonderful. There is depth and subtlety to the textures not really captured by the pictures online. This will look very elegant in my study. Thank you!

About

Making a mark matters.

Life is complex. Life is layered. So is my art.
Life is is a journey and a process. So is my art.
I was an Architect with Richard Meier and Philip Johnson. Now I'm an Artist. Happening upon an old industrial printmaking press in the basement of a community center a few years back I quickly realized that my personal journey from Switzerland to Germany to the United States, my lifelong passion for making art and all that training and work as an architect had led me to this : Printmaking.
Once I hit that printing press, I hit it hard and I knew I had found my medium to take me into a world of making my art.

Printmaking became a focus in my work in 2006. The medium a congenial way of creating art given my professional background in architecture. Its unique combination of creative flow and process requires a structured, sequenced way of thinking in layers, shapes and colors not unlike architectural plans. Printmaking has allowed me to gradually make my way from the strictures of architecture to a looser form of creative expression. The initial exploration subjected all manner of natural and man-made matter to the printing press, letting the material lead the way while engaging all of my artistic and design skills. Over the years, constant experimentation has propelled my unique monoprints from a graphic into a more painterly direction, incorporating paper lithography, etching, collagraph, chine collé and viscosity techniques to achieve thoroughly embedded and complexly layered visual landscapes of considerable depth.
My work is process driven, an ongoing investigation into making marks and layering. Each work on paper becomes a unique piece responding to the materials and techniques at hand, resulting in a widely varied yet distinctive portfolio.
At the core of the dialogue between myself and the work is an attempt to push the medium of printmaking to its limits, straddling the lines between printmaking, drawing, painting and collage in an authentically mixed media way that might eventually spill over into other disciplines. Printmaking carries with it the element of surprise and the inevitability of the “happy accident” which I credit for immensely expanding my artistic sensibilities.

Thank you for visiting the Gallery.
I hope you enjoyed viewing the pieces. Please keep in mind that colors onscreen may differ slightly from the original. Textures and embossing are not adequately represented onscreen - you might find that there is even more to the piece!
Many of the pieces are part of a thematic series and would look great displayed as a group.
