About

This is a story of a broke and crafty graduate student!

"Keepin' It Sunny" was born on August 29th, 2012. :)

Before it's birth, I had served as an Americorps at an after-school program. After my service ended, I started job hunting for a position that would fit with my upcoming internship and Saturday classes. My first interview went really well! Except they wanted me to pick between school or the job. My second interview went just as well...but they, too, wanted me to choose even though in my head, there really wasn't a choice that needed to be made. This is my last year of graduate school, and I WILL graduate!

Well, long story short....two months went by and I had gone to a few more interviews...none that could fit with my internship and Saturday classes. At this point, I was getting desperate. People suggested working at some of the grocery stores, the mall, and even telemarketing. But you see, sometimes you get to a point where you just want something REALLY GOOD that you actually want to finally happen!

During this whole time of desperation, I was also making vases from old light bulbs and headbands out of t-shirts. I wasn't doing it because I knew I was going into business, but I did it because it helped me manage my stress level. I would spend four hours making light bulb vases and just completely forget that I was still a broke graduate student! That was how much I loved upcycling!

On August 29th, 2012, I checked my bank account... And with exactly $2.60 in it (I kid you not), I decided I really didn't have much to lose.

And lo and behold... "Keepin' It Sunny" was born! Even though I don't sell much, crafting and meeting other Estians has been a great blessing (and stress reliever!). I enjoy meeting others who share the same artsy passion as I do. ;)

So there you have it folks... "Keepin' It Sunny" is the story of a broke and crafty graduate student trying to save the world one light bulb at a time.... :)

***UPDATE: On February 28, 2013, I decided to change my shop's name to "Finding Evey." I realized that I didn't want to limit myself to just upcycling (I still love it though!!). I stopped feeling "crafty" inside because, well, you can only make so many lightbulb vases!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my crafty little business where I specialize in upcycling! I love to create art out of things I already have or things that others might consider "junk." Right now, I've been making light bulb vases along with pincushions out of bottle/milk caps! I'm also making a few hair ties from fabric scraps.

Feel free to support my live-a-little-more-artsy-and-the-rest-will-follow account...or saving the world one light bulb at a time...and just art in general!

Thanks for visiting! Let me know if I can do anything for you! :)

Most sincerely,
Frying Pan
