About

Kelly and Kai makes magic happen every day!

I started Kelly and Kai last fall when I needed to find a way to make a dream come true. I had been studying with a teacher for a year for a spiritual practice. I wanted to continue into the second year, but didn't have a way to fund the classes. As a stay at home mom, I know that keeping something alive and growing that is separate from my identity as a mom is essential.

I also get a lot of fulfillment from taking care of my daughter, learning from her and watching her grow. I have always made things for her with my hands, from knitted sweaters, pants, dolls, you name it. I like the special touch that handmade items can provide for her play. I have seen that pay off now by watching her design her own doll/animal clothes and toys.

Most of the time I get an idea while practicing my spiritual work. I try to sketch my ideas first, but this ends up being a disaster usually. Creating right with the fabric is truly the best way I can see if my idea will work or not.

I believe we are all innately creative, and just have to tap into where we best hold our skills and vision. My wish is that all of our kids can be exposed to find exactly where their artistry lies, perhaps playing the piano, being a computer whiz, or building a sustainable business...the place they first learn this is in their play. And that, when you think about it, is nothing short of magic!

I love to create beauty all around. I garden, sew, knit, dance, sing, chicken wrangle, cook, bake, laugh and love. When I'm not with my preschooler or hubby, I am creating for Kelly & Kai.

Thank you for stopping by. Stay a while and sip a cup of tea or coffee with me, because I love both!

While you're here, take notice of how each item is both functional and beautiful. Every item that I make I want to be an heirloom. That means I invest in quality materials and then take time to make each item something your children's children will use.

I try to keep in mind the energy each toy will bring into your child's play. Is it simple and as open-ended as possible to enhance imaginative play?

Whenever possible I source natural material (cotton, wool, bamboo, etc.) and purchase locally.

I am a mama of a 3 year old daughter and love to stay at home and play with her and learn together. Your order helps make that happen. Thank you!
