My Design Philosophy

After some rudimentary, what could possibly be called "classical: art training in a residential arts high school, I decided that for myself, art is only going to be an out to make me happy (and the occasional profit). The schooling was fantastic training in certain technical skills, but I feel like my creativity was absolutely crushed there. One of my teachers actually told me, "You should not paint." At this point, I say, "Screw it!" Do what makes you happy! Experiment! I didn't end up at a hoity-toity art school, as they specifically groomed us for. And I think I'm enjoying life much more because of it. Good old-fashioned self-taughtedness is not to be underestimated.

I'm inspired by anything colorful, funny, or cute. Hot-button conversational topics, topical humor, social relevance. Satire! Parody! How damn ridiculous life can be. Curiosity about deep-seated design elements in ancient cultures. Fables, folklore. <3 Sci-fi! <3 Fantasy! Show it to me, and I'll probably draw some sort of inspiration from it.
