Announcement   Hand dyed sustainable clothing by textile artist Kelly Ruth.

After 10 years of working as a textile dyer in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Wardrobe department I set out to focus on my own artwork and clothing design. I absolutely love playing with colour, I hope you enjoy what I do!

I have been focusing so much lately on keeping up with wholesale orders for Canadian stores that I am having difficulty finding time to list new items. I promise I will get back to this as soon as I can!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I ship my items quickly through Canada Post so the shipping costs are very reasonable. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I will respond quickly to your request. Please keep in mind that I ship from Canada. This means that orders to the United States and abroad take about 2 weeks to arrive once shipped.Canada Post no longer provides tracking numbers unless you are willing to pay considerable more for shipping.

The headband is very narrow, not what I had seen in Bodacious. The colors nothing like what I had requested. I will not be using them.

My daughter and I love our five-pack. We were able to request colours and received 4/5 of the ones we wanted (the list was for 5 random colours). These wash great too! We will be back!

About

Do or Dye!

Growing up I knew I wanted to be a musician, artist or fashion designer. Gratefully I have pursued all three! I started my career working for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, as a textile dyer. Once I was ready to really develop my artistic voice, I needed to step down from the responsibility of meeting the needs of theatre and film to develop a deeper relationship with the many dye classes, in addition to focusing on my conceptual artwork. I have come a long way and met many of the goals I set out for myself since I started down a solo path.

The joy of working on my clothing line is being able to treat each garment like a painting. Once I am in a middle of dyeing stacks of garments I become addicted. It is one of the most joyful things in my life. The clothing is all my own design. Currently I hire a friend to help me sew the garments so that I can keep up with building my business. I do all the cutting, dyeing, marketing, and some of the sewing.

Once everything is sewn, I dye up each piece from an unbleached or white colour. I choose fabrics for their sustainability factors as well as the ability to move well. Everything is produced in Winnipeg where I live, which is a pretty surreal city to live in as far as Canada goes.

I really like playing with textile dyes! I worked for theatre and film companies as a textile dyer for about ten years before going out on my own to focus on my textile art and painting. This is my passion!

Thank you for visiting my Etsy store!

All the clothing in my store is designed, and hand dyed by me. Each garment is treated individually, and each piece is unique. I layer colours through immersing the garments in several dye baths until I am satisfied with the composition. I am excited to find colours that are in between manufactured colours and find that I am addicted to the process!

I reuse my dye baths as much as possible dyeing colours from dark to light or vice versa. I even collect the water from my dehumidifier to try and minimize the water wasted. I am also choosing to work with sustainable fibres in my own designs such as bamboo, hemp and modal. It is important to me to work with sustainable materials, to build my garments in Canada and to make a clothing line that is accessible as I can while still paying myself a fair wage.

*NOTE* It is very important to understand that I cannot repeat colors exactly as pictured. It is also important to understand that working from a description will very likely be different then what is imagined. For this reason I will not do custom work.
