Kelly is an artist, writer, and creator--changing the world one act of kindness at a time.

If you didn't know this about me, I used to work at Walt Disney World. I actually worked there multiple times lol. In my time at the company, I worked in merchandise, attractions, lifeguarding, lifeguard training, recreation coordinating, and finally my dream job at the time--Guest Relations.

I learned a lot from working for Disney, and while my experiences were not always magical, I will always hold fond memories of the magic I was able to create in such a wondrous place.
My draw to Disney began at a young age with Disney movies and a visit to Disney World in elementary school. My great aunt and uncle both worked there and invited my family for a trip to Florida. It was truly an escape from reality. I can't even put into words how much this place quickly grew on me and became such a dream world. It was love at first sight.

Although I learned many years later that Walt Disney had a dark side and was not the perfect man I so wanted him to be, his story really inspired me. He was an ordinary man with such a beautiful dream. And he turned that dream of an alternate reality into an actual reality. There is nothing that I can imagine that will ever take the place of Disney in this world. His drive and attention to detail amazed me. His persistence and magic awed me. It was like a part of me always wished that I could meet his story or exceed it... I may have been a bit ambitious lol.
Being a cast member was about making magic. Each day we set out to make people feel accepted and happy. We helped them escape harsh realities. We could give "magic moments" that no other place could offer. It was an amazing feeling to belong--both as a cast member and a guest.

When my son Elijah passed away in 2015, the magic took a turn for me. I felt like Disney was no longer big enough to feel the void. I needed to really escape from the reality that was my world falling apart. I grasped at many straws as I struggled with mental health, physical health, and homelessness. I had a family to take care of when I could barely take care of myself. I had to quit my dream job to do the falling apart that I needed.

I continued my magic-making in the outside world by honoring my son Elijah with everyday acts of kindness. I hide quarters in gumball machines, make small donations, and do little things here and there to help people wherever I can. I dabbled in art and have tried to make an income off of it, but I could never figure out what my nitch or "why" was....I found myself today making the comparison to my "why" for Disney and my "why" today. What is my reason for Kelly's Christmas Shop? What was the draw that led me to Christmas ornaments and unique holiday gifts? It all kind of boils down to the same thing--magic--AKA kindness.

Much like Disney, Christmas is a wondrous place. It is a place in time, instead of a place to travel to. It invokes joy and an escape from reality. It is, to me, an alternate universe existing in this very universe. People are more loving and giving. There is a warmth in the air. We decorate to inspire joy in ourselves and others. We get giddy over picking the right gifts for the people we love. We want to help more. It is not your average Tuesday in August. It is magical.

I have always wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. I have always felt like I needed to do something to inspire the world. Maybe it is silly to think that ornaments and dishtowels can do such a thing, but I am also a big believer in doing what you can where you are at. I am honoring where I am in life. I am a mom with a disability and I have children with disabilities. I have to work from home right now. So what can I do? I can do the best I can. I can make people's holidays a little bit brighter. I can contribute to magical memories throughout the years. I can bring a little joy to the world right from my home office.

Maybe one day there will be a Kelly's Christmas World lol. But right now, my "why" is to inspire kindness through my art, to bring joy through my work, and to be a little piece of that holiday magic we all know and love.

Thank you if you have read this far lol. I honestly can't tell you how loved and supported you guys have made me feel on my journey. You all rock and I love you all. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays ❤
