What woodworking is at KE Miner Woodworking, LLC

I started woodworking when I was 12 years old. My father started me out building boot jacks and napkin holders as gifts for relatives. Then family and friends would ask for small projects which increased my experience and knowledge. In 2006 I registered my business name and started taking on jobs as a part-time, after work type of hobby. In 2008, along with economy (and partly because of it) I was forced to make KE Miner Woodworking a full-time business.

My goal in woodworking is to make pieces that are original and durable. I don't like to make pieces that someone else designed, I have on special occasions, but don't make it a habit. I want to make a piece, whether it's a wall shelf or a king size bed, that is special for the client. I want the client to know that the piece they get from me was made by one guy, individually and specifically for them. As for durability, my goal is 100 years of use. I try to avoid using only glue to hold a joint together. I do my best to make joints that fit together and stay together without glue. Then when glue is applied it adds to the stability and strength.

I do my best to make things "by hand" as I believe the term applies, I do use power tools in my shop though. It would be nice to make everything with non-power hand tools, it would be a lot quieter and use much less electricity but it's just not practical. As it is people don't understand the labor involved in a piece. Many people think that if the materials cost $50 the item shouldn't cost more than $100 even though it has taken 20 hours to build. Imagine if it was all done with hand tools and it took 60 hours to make! No one would be able to afford it.

The wood I use is locally harvested and milled. I like the idea of the low carbon footprint but more important to me is that it's more authentic. Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Ash are all wood species that have been used by woodworkers in this area since the first chisel came across the ocean.

I guess the bottom line for my shop is to make honest, original, durable pieces. The beauty comes from the wood and knowing that someone has thought about and worked with every part to make it fit and look "just right"....for you.

I'm it, a middle aged guy, living in the Mid-West with my wife and two boys, two black labs in a tan two story house in the country. I'm about as average as a guy can get....and I don't mind one bit! If only everyone could be so lucky!

The items I make, whether it's funiture or a small accessory, I want to last for a life time. I care about every piece I make and want the owner to be able to use it and enjoy it for a long, long time.

I am a one-man shop in Michigan just 20 miles North of Grand Rapids. I use solid wood for the most part although some utilitarian pieces (not sold on Etsy) require plywood and manufactured materials. My preference is solid wood with time honored construction like dovetail and mortise and tenon joints. The tools I use are a mix of power tools and hand tools. Everyone has to make a decision as to how much "technology" they are willing to use. Personally, my technology is limited to a table saw, band saw, power miterbox, jointer, planer, lathe, drill press, belt/disc sanding center and scroll saw all with just ON/OFF switches, no computers to help set up here. No CNC machines, no duplicators, no automatic anything. I try to use hand tools as much as possible but time is an issue. Automation saves time but also makes things look like they were done with a cookie cutter with no human touch and no thought.

Sorry, No returns or refunds on Custom orders.

Please contact me within 5 days of delivery for refund or exchange. The original item must be returned undamaged and in new condition before I make the replacement item or issue a refund. Return shipping costs will be paid by the buyer.

I make every effort to over-package my items to avoid damage. However, In the event of damage during shipping please contact me within 48 hours with pictures of the damage so I can file a claim. I insure each item I ship. Because each case will have a different resolution it has to be done on a case by case basis.

For international shipping where I'm unable to insure a package, I'm afraid you will have to take that up with your postal service. Once the item leaves the United States Postal Service there is nothing I can do and I am not responsible for loss or damage.

Return shipping will be the buyers responsibility.
I prefer payment be done with one of the payment methods.

For custom orders payment method will be negotiated.

For Michigan customers, sales taxes will be added per our recent legislation.

If you have to cancel an order let me know as soon as possible. If I've shipped I'm afraid there isn't much I can do, the transaction is complete.
I ship USPS and UPS mainly. If you request a shipping confirmation number I'll be happy to e-mail it to you. I'll be tracking the shipment either way.

I will ship other ways but we will have to work out the cost difference before you order.

International shipping: THE BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL VAT, OTHER TAXES AND FEES THEIR COUNTRY IMPOSE. These taxes and fees can not be paid in advance, they are due at time of pickup. I will not mark items as "Gift" to avoid taxes, so please don't ask.

I will provide expected delivery times but I am not responsible for the accuracy of those times. If you need an item by a certain date please let me know before you order. I'll tell you if I think it's possible.

As a very general idea:
It usually takes a 2-3 weeks for items to get to Canada.
To get to Europe it usually takes 3-4 weeks.
Additional policies and FAQs
I do custom orders on a case by case basis. We'll figure out cost to make the piece, the cost of the shipping and the completion date. Once the details are worked out I must receive payment in full for work to start.

My shop is Smoke-free. However, I am under the constant supervision of two black Lab dogs.
