5 out of 5 starsNobody tells you how intricate the surface of Tourmaline is… it’s so amazing. This piece especially is something else… it’s so black and so detailed, there are actually two points fused together in the same orientation. Looks like something from space. The back shows signs of double termination as well which means they did a really good job of separating this from whatever it was growing on. Bravo! Will buy again!

I grew up in big city suburbs where the people outnumber the trees so of course I fell in love with Vermont the first time I saw it... with its clear green rivers, and hills with cows and actual hay bales... trees that grow wherever; not where someone with a blueprint decided they should go.... So I suppose I decided moving here with no plan or job would just have to work out, which is probably the only reason it did. Now years later I get to play with rocks in a little house at the edge of the woods, with a neighbor's hobby farm on one side, a forest on the other, and an actual tiny brook between... it honestly blows my mind daily. So now instead of strip malls and traffic I get to see donkeys and horses and chickens, and occasional wild visitors like deer, turkeys, bobcats, and once even a black bear! Still haven't seen a moose yet though, but the trees definitely outnumber the people ♥ (though for the sake of transparency, the mosquitoes do too) ♥ anyway, i love knowing if anyone ever finds this little story section so if you're reading this please put "Story Prize" in the notes-to-seller box when you check out and i'll include an extra little gift crystal in with your order ♥ thank you!☺

What's your favorite type of crystal to collect?
I'm a huge sucker for Quartz with fun growth habits and funky etched regrowth, but I always seem to come back to English Fluorite as my favorite... specifically the color-changing (daylight fluorescent) finds from the Weardale area. I can always get lost in the beautiful green>blue classic from the Rogerley Mine, but the variety of different shades and color-change hues from Lady Annabella and Diana Maria mines are incredible. Plus some pockets have fun characteristics like Quartz association, multi generation growth, etched faces, colorful phantoms, intense color change, and some crystals will show finely raised concentric growth hillocks on the surface (watch for how the striations orient with the penetration-twin cubes... so cool) 🤓🤓
Any tips for color changing fluorite?
The strength will depend on the size and quality of the crystal of course, but it will also depend on different factors like time of day, cloud cover, and how it's being held/background. Here are some tips... (1) overcast rainy skies have the best light, shade works second best, and taking it outside on a bright sunny day is the least effective, (2) the color change is stronger around noon when the sun is high, and weaker in the morning or at dusk when the sun is lower, (3) some sides of the crystal prism will catch light better than others; turn it slowly in the light to find the best sides, (4) a white or bright background washes it out; try giving it a dark or solid background instead
