Creatures, featured.
Late spring, 2020, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and the desire to take walks around my neighborhood. I hadn't cared much for just WALKING before; I needed a destination and something to occupy my thoughts. But one of the last things I grabbed from my office before going to work from home (for forever, though I didn't know it at the time) was the company camera.
Now I walked more slowly, paying attention to the emerging buds, singing birds, and fattening squirrels. I pointed the macro lens I had mostly just used for textures at the ants in my backyard and discovered expressive jumping spiders, adorable weevils and fuzzy bumblebees. Everything had character, so I started drawing them as characters, and appreciating the diversity in my own urban backyard.
I started Kestrop Studio as it is now in December 2021 to share these neighborhood creatures with others, both here on my shop as well as at popups and markets around the New England area. Thanks so much for stopping by!
