Kiahdesign - the beauty of paper........
Kiahdesign is one facet of my creative life. I am an artist working with found objects and papers and most times I can be found in my studio preparing work for exhibition.
My love of paper and colour led very naturally into making paper jewellery and I find it a good companion to painting.
I enjoy the inherent contradiction- the "preciousness" of jewellery versus the everyday material of paper.
My materials range from the exotic to the mundane; from beautiful marbled and hand silk-screened Japanese and Italian papers to weaving newspaper.
It takes various forms; brooches made from papier-mâché that I make from computer paper to necklaces and bangles and beads that I make from worn-out books!
The landscape also makes its way into my jewellery in the form of brooches, earrings and pendants that I make from Eucalypt leaves.

Owner, Maker, Designer, Artist
I live on the beautiful south coast of Australia with a lovely studio amongst the trees that I occasionally share with sugar gliders and parrots...
I make paper beads from various beautiful papers- Japanese hand screen printed paper, hand marbled papers found in small studios while visiting Florence and Venice and hand printed and paste papers made by me in my studio. Each bead is hand rolled, finished and coated with numerous coats of varnish before being given a final wax coating to impart a soft sheen. They are solid to the touch and hard wearing.Getting damp in the rain is not a problem. However I do not recommend swimming in them!
Each piece of jewelry is presented in a handmade box with a ribbon of beautiful Japanese paper.
They are made in a smoke free environment
