All of the jewelry in my shop is handmade by me in my home studio. I also make custom necklace cords to add the perfect finishing touch to your own jewelry creations. I hope that you find something you like and will be proud to wear or give as a gift.

It's hard to believe that my 🚐 relocation from the Northeast🍁 to southern 🌵Arizona was more than a year ago now. And yet, I'm still not used to the heat ☀️ here. Hope you are cool🌡️where you are located.

About

Handmade and One-of-a-Kind Fused Glass Jewelry

Thank you for visiting my shop. I'm happy to be able to share my handmade jewelry on Etsy. I have been also working on creating fused glass art panels as well as home decor items and hope to share those with you as well.

🔥 HANDCRAFTED JEWELRY 🔥
My jewelry starts with thin sheets of glass that I hand-cut and layer to form a unique design. It's important to select glass that expands and shrinks at the same rate, and have colors and transparencies that blend well together. Dichroic coatings may also be added, which offer a uniquely beautiful shimmer and sparkle to the glass, particularly in the sun where the colors may change depending on the viewing angle. Each piece is then fired in my kiln for several hours before it’s fashioned into jewelry.

Working with glass reminds me to be patient and to take my time (otherwise you just end up with broken glass and even a few bloody fingers). It's a much welcome break for me at the end of a long day or week. I am often so consumed by my glasswork that I lose all track of time.

🔥 KILN-FIRED GLASS 🔥
Fusing glass is the art of taking multiple pieces of glass and slowly melting them together until they form one solid piece. This requires a lengthy process of heating and cooling the glass in a kiln at a very slow rate and at very hot temperatures, sometimes multiple times. Some fused glass jewelry can be made in a regular microwave oven, which simulates the same look as kiln-fired glass, but is a much shorter process, reducing hours and hours of kiln time down to just minutes. But I prefer the slower tried-and-true method. The slow rate is what gives the glass it’s strength and durability.

🔥 ORANGE GLOW 🔥
About halfway through the firing and after reaching upwards of 1400 degrees fahrenheit, the heating elements in the kiln switch off to start the initial cooling cycle. At this time and for only just a few short moments, the inside of the kiln glows a wonderfully vibrant orange, and each piece of glass glows a beautiful soft white.

Frequently asked questions

Is the glass in the jewelry fragile or delicate?

Surprisingly, NO!
◆ The glass in KilnKarma jewelry is fully annealed which makes it quite strong and durable, and it's very unlikely to break or chip with normal use.
◆ However, scratches can occur on the glass or attachments if it rubs on rough materials such as metal, stone, or concrete, so please take care to store the jewelry properly.

Care instructions

◆ Store jewelry away from objects such as stone or metal that could permanently scratch the surface
◆ If needed, wipe with a damp cloth or microfiber cloth to clean it
◆ Be careful not to drop the jewelry on a hard surface or the bail (loop) may detach from the glass

The silver & silver plated components may tarnish over time.
◆ Here is an easy tip to clean this:
http://www.ehow.com/how_12014970_way-clean-silverplated-jewelry.html
◆ If you choose to use commercial silver cleaner, be sure to choose something mild enough for silver plating so the coating does not wear away

The gold plated components may also tarnish.
◆ Here's a great tip for that:

When will I receive my KilnKarma order?

◆ I make every effort to ship jewelry and ready-to-ship necklace cords within 1-2 business days after receiving payment.
◆ I will also begin creating made-to-order necklace cords as soon as possible and will aim to ship them before the estimated ship date whenever possible.
◆ Orders ship from Arizona.

◆ USPS FIRST CLASS MAIL usually arrives within 2-5 days after shipment to most U.S. addresses, and could take 3-8 weeks internationally. This could be slightly longer during peek/holiday seasons.
◆ USPS PRIORITY MAIL is available as an upgrade to U.S. customers during checkout, and is expected to arrive within 1-3 business days after shipment.

Will I receive a tracking number?

YES! I will send you a USPS tracking number for your convenience as soon as it's available. I have seen some delays (sometimes up to 24 hours or more) before the tracking information is updated online.
◆ If you are located outside of the U.S., please note that tracking and delivery information may not be available once the package leaves the U.S.

International orders

I ship my jewelry to many regions around the world. If you don't see your country listed, please contact me.
◆ Please remember that your shipping address should be in English and that your address includes a first and last name or the package may be rejected by customs inspectors.
◆ Note also that I cannot mark your item as 'gift' on customs forms.
◆ To comply with EU buyer protection laws, customers in the EU can contact me for my business address.

Gift wrapping and packaging

◆ All jewelry ships with a pretty organza pouch, great for storage or gift giving.
◆ All packages ship in a 6"x9" envelope with bubble wrap for added protection during shipment.

Cord and Chain options for Kiln Karma necklaces

All of my necklaces ship with a cord or chain as shown in the listing.

◆ I make most of the cords and chains in the necklace listings, so if you would prefer one of a different length or style than what is listed for a pendant, feel free to contact me before placing your order. In most cases, it will be a nominal fee to upgrade, but I will just need an extra day or 2 to make your custom cord before shipping.

◆ My made-to-order cords are listed here:

Choosing the right length for your necklace

This picture will help visualize necklace lengths:
pinterest.com/pin/31243791137164638/

◆ To measure, take an existing necklace, string or a flexible cord, drape it around your neck, tug on the bottom to simulate the weight of a hanging pendant. Mark the length that you like & lay it flat next to a tape measure.
◆ I find 18-19" cords are the ones I grab the most - it's pretty versatile, goes well with most scoop or v-neck tops & usually fall just above the neckline.
◆ Longer cords of 22"-24" offer a nice proportion with larger pendants & are great if you prefer the cord to hang lower on your neckline. This size also may work well for men.
◆ Prefer a choker? Try a length around 14-15".
