Thank you for visiting Kimonoya's vintage kimono shop.

All my listings are kept as small as my prices, but I would be happy to answer any questions and provide more information.

I do not list sizes, largely because kimono shapes are easy to wear on most forms and figures. If you wish to have measurements for kitsuke purposes, just let me know.

Kimonoya does not sell dirty or torn items, but the shop deals in vintage garments, which inevitably show signs of their age. This is regarded as part of their old world charm, and leaves us wondering what they would tell us about their history, if only they could speak.

Kimono have always conveyed meanings, mostly intended to bring the wearer good luck and health. Many designs reflect the special relationship the Japanese have with nature – kimono are full of auspicious flowers, birds and animals, landscape and water motifs. Wouldn't it be great if we could wish ourselves a long life and happiness just be wearing the right clothing!

Now, please take a little time to check out the important “small print” to help with your purchase.

Many thanks from Kimonoya.

Refunds and Exchanges
Kimonoya is confident that you will love these vintage kimono. I so want you to be happy with your purchase, and appreciate any feed back from you, which is an important way to establish my new shop. If a problem does occur, please let me know, rather than leave a comment that could damage my reputation before I have a chance to sort things.

Please note that vintage is not new, the different being charm and also that every genuine kimono is a one-off piece of Japanese history, not mass-produced. I do not list items that are dirty or torn, indeed, many of my items are actually unworn. I look over all the kimono carefully, to identify such things as small age spots from storage, or very slight damage. I try to mention when the condition of a particularly lovely textile might be more suitable for repurposing.

Please also note the Care instructions below, in the Additional Information section.

Having made the vintage nature of Kimonoya's listings clear, refunds are not anticipated. Please also look at my comments about loss and damage in transit, under the Shipping Policy section.

However, if you do have a problem on receipt of an item, please contact me immediately. I will work with you the find an amicable and mutually reasonable solution.

Thank you for your understanding.
Additional policies and FAQs
Care of your vintage Kimonoya purchase.

Vintage clothing should never be washed, as water and silk do not mix. So dry cleaning only, and inform the cleaner that the item is vintage Japanese silk.

The only exception are Japanese Summer kimono called Yukata. These are made of cotton, and new ones should be washed separately, by hand, in cold water and a little liquid soap. This gets rid of any loose dye, which would otherwise transfer to other items in the wash. Vintage yukata must be treated with extreme care because of their greater age. I have managed to launder mine, but this should be carried out very gently, with no wringing, and line-dried on a cloudy day, to avoid fading of natural dyes.

I keep my silk kimono flat, in acid-free paper wrappers. All Kimonoya kimono are genuine, and you will be able to see their original folds. This will help you to store them correctly. Hangers distort the shape, and can weaken the shoulder seam.

You're going to love them, so they are worth looking after.

Just convo if you need more help.
