About

All about the artist

Kirsty was born and raised in Erskine, living there for nearly eighteen years before moving to Dundee to study Contemporary Art & Philosophy at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. As she had undertaken Advanced Higher Art in school this seemed like a natural progression due to her love for being creative, however, being away from home for the first time took its toll and along with the suggestion from her parents that there may not be sufficient job opportunities at the end of the course, she moved back a few years later and studied Web Development at Central College and Caledonian University in Glasgow.

After a while of studying and working in IT, Kirsty returned to her creative roots after noticing a void due to the lack of expression her career allowed and began to engage in creative pursuits such as jewellery design, painting and photography in her spare time.

In her early childhood, Tim Burton, Egyptian mythology and Goosebumps books inspired her and this curiosity continued as she was introduced to the horror genre and the gothic subculture as she grew up.

Her photography style centres around creating atmosphere and intrigue for the viewer, as well as showcasing common objects and locations from different and interesting perspectives. Her images convey a range of subjects, from otherworldly landscapes to creepy doll portraits and sometimes even spiders when she’s feeling brave!

Kirsty continues to juggle an IT career with a photography business but dreams of doing this full time in the future.

Please feel free to browse the collection in our etsy store and visit www.KirstyRiceArt.com for more information.
