I'm the Montessori child who grew up to become a Montessori teacher.

The Montessori prepared environment for children aged 2 1/2-6 has four main focuses: Math, Language, Sensorial and Practical Life.

All of the different aged children enjoy and spend time in Practical Life, which directly helps them develop concentration, control of movement, independence and a foundation for success.

The youngest children become engrossed in the process of the "work" here, and with repetitive practice they hone important skills, while also unknowingly gaining preparations for more complex tasks. The older children use Practical Life as a way to relax with something comfortable, while also accomplishing tasks that contribute to the benefit of the group.

Practical Life requires lots of handmade, beautiful and one-of-a-kind materials, and as a creative person who loves to make things, this is my favorite area of the classroom to curate and prepare. It's also the area of the classroom that takes the most time to thoughtfully put together and build and can overwhelm busy teachers.

I hope the materials in my shop will help create a beautiful Practical Life environment in your classroom and will be cherished and enjoyed by lots and lots of children.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for visiting my shop, Montessori Foundations: Practice, Repeat, Perfect. Everything you see here has either been hand-crafted with love and hard work, or curated to become a treasured part of the Practical Life area of the primary Montessori environment.

All of the Montessori materials found here are items similar to ones I used successfully in my own classroom, or follow the guidelines I learned during my primary training.

Many of my listings are made in part with vintage materials, or are recycled or re-purposed. Those that are not handmade, are curated from estate sales or second hand shops, unless specified as new.

If you're looking for an item that has perfectly sewn seams and flawless execution, my creations may not be for you. Sometimes I sew a little crooked, sometimes I change thread colors mid project, and most usually, I fly by the seat of what inspires me. But everything will be beautiful and appropriate for a young child to use and love.

Items in my shop will contain the important characteristics of Practical Life that promote independence, concentration and control of movement: being familiar, culturally specific to North America, child-sized, attractive, color coded, and unique. Glassware items are obviously breakable to help with concentration and self-control, and kits will be designed to be presented in left to right order as an indirect preparation for reading and writing.

I promise everything is well represented by photographs and is described as accurately as possible. If you want a closeup of something, just ask! I can also include a copy of how to present each "work" if requested.

If you're looking for something custom made, or have questions about items for sale, materials or construction, please "convo" me.

Everything I sell will also be free of wool, leather and other animal by-products.
