KIVVERS® are designed to provide handsome, top-quality products at reasonable prices for book lovers and business professionals.
When I say KIVVERS®, people look at me weird. What is it?
Here, in the U.S., kivvers is southern slang for covers. It's normally used to describe blankets, quilts, or bed covers. My KIVVERS® are a bit different...they are used to cover and protect books, composition notebooks or journals of any size; which if you think about it is still a 'cover!"
I am the kind of person who must be "doing something." I must be "productive" in some way. Otherwise, I feel that I am wasting time. Time is a precious thing....we are only allotted a certain amount in our lifetime.
I've always wanted to be self-employed...to me, that equals self-empowerment...an opportunity to take control of your own destiny (as much as one can!), and enjoy what you're doing along the way. "Follow your bliss" may sound cliche but I think it's the only way to really find personal satisfaction, gratification, and happiness in your day-to-day life.
Currently, I still have a day job. I am longing for the day when I find enough courage to leave the chaos,(and the steady paycheck) behind and start LIVING my life doing the things I WANT TO DO...spending time with my husband and family, sewing, creating, and simply living life!
As a self-taught sewist, most of my sewing experience has been by old fashioned trial and error. Many lessons are learned that way! As with most other things in life, you get what you put into it. So I've persevered.
The idea of making custom-fitted book covers came from my husband Jim (a self proclaimed biblioholic, rightly so!). His mother made some protective book covers for him around 1985. She used Naugahyde to make them. She has since passed on. Jim was telling me about those covers and how he wished he had more. He still uses the ones his mother made 30 years ago! I asked to see one and thought immediately, "I can do that!" Well, it turned out to be a much trickier process than I expected, but it seems most things involve more than you first thought.
To make a long story short, I've mastered it! In fact, I've become so accomplished that I do not require the book that is to be covered. All I need are ACCURATE measurements.
About the name, the word 'kivvers' stuck with me after reading a book my mother loaned me. I'm ashamed to say that I don't remember the title or the author of the book. In the novel, 'kivvers' referred to the quilts on the bed, "...pull up 'em kivvers!" Reading those words gave me a warm smile. Funny how a little thing like that can stick with you. The book referred to kivvers as covers and I was making covers for books! So, KIVVERS® was born!
I take my art seriously. Each KIVVERS® is an extension of me and represents the quality of my workmanship. I take pride in each one. Etsy has been good to me and I feel that I am appreciated for being the self-made artisan that I have become!
I think I've found my bliss! Now my greatest challenge is to make it sustainable!
Owner, Maker, Designer, Artisan
I thrive on making things with my own two hands! The ability to create a well made, custom fitted book cover is vitally important to me. I am dedicated to handsome craftsmanship and creating a product that makes one ask, "Is that really handmade?"
My goal is to provide a custom fitted, professional looking product with such a high level of craftsmanship that people will say, "That's handmade?"
I want my customers to feel a renewed sense of pride in their old books...and those working in a professional atmosphere to feel confident knowing their composition notebook cover is as serious about the job as they are!
I specialize in creating vegan faux leather composition notebook covers and custom fitted book covers using the book's dimensions. There is no need to send the book...all I need are the dimensions.
Sewing faux leather can be difficult but it's my fabric of choice. I appreciate the suppleness, durability, ease of cleaning, and the fact that it resembles real leather without the expense. It's also a cruelty free, vegan leather, option to real leather and much easier to maintain (no oiling required). Plus, it comes in a variety of textures and colors.
KIVVERS® are unique in that they are constructed from a single piece of faux leather. Another unusual feature is the placement of the book mark. Located on the back cover, the ribbon will lay flat rather than twisting as they do when sewn in the center of the spine. Gold foil hot stamping is now available for certain faux leathers. Some of the faux leathers will accept the gold lettering and some will not. Gold foil imprinting is not available on the highly textured faux leathers.
KIVVERS® is now an officially Registered Trademark! Reg No 4659099

ALL BOOK COVERS ARE MADE USING THE INFORMATION THAT YOU PROVIDE! I rely solely on the measurements that I am given....please remember, I do not have the book! I cannot measure it myself! Sorry, custom orders with personalization are not refundable. All personalization must be verified by you before the process begins. If I have made an error (i.e. misspelling, incorrect color), then I will replace your item or give you a full refund.

Since all of my book covers are custom-fitted specific to your book, the creation of your product will not begin until payment AND measurements are received. I recommend leaving a "Note to Seller" or "Note from Buyer" in the space provided during the checkout process. I like to verify this information before I start the project.
I will happily accept custom requests; however, if I feel your request is beyond my capability or the capacity of my equipment, I reserve the right to decline or cancel an order. In such case, your payment will be promptly returned to you via the payment method you used.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Any Customs Duties or VAT fees will be the responsibility of the buyer! These are things beyond my control!
The majority of book covers weigh less than 13 ounces. These will be shipped by USPS First Class Mail. Oversize books (10" or more in height) or those which will require additional packaging to protect the product (Gold foil title on the spine), may incur additional shipping costs due to increased weight and protective packaging. These will be converted to a custom order to reflect the proper postage required. You will be notified via convo and email.
All Domestic Composition Notebooks will ship by Priority Mail. I offer shipping discounts when multiple items are purchased. To receive this discount, add your items to the cart before checking out. When you view your cart, the appropriate shipping cost should be displayed.
Most items are created and ready to ship within 7-10 business days. Custom orders are generally 10-12 business days. Items requiring personalization and/or gift packaging may require additional time. I try to get my orders done as quickly as I can. I have some Composition Notebooks that are Ready-to-Ship. Those will go out with the next Postal dispatch! Also, shipping discounts for purchasing multiple items has been included in pricing. To receive the discount, please add all items to cart and make a single payment. The discount should be reflected in your final price.
Items will be shipped to the address as listed on the Etsy receipt. It is the Buyers responsibility to give the desired "Ship To" address. Please verify this information. I will gladly ship to a different address but I will need to know where to send it!

Frequently asked questions
Can you make a cover to fit planners, mole skin, and other hard cover books?
I can custom fit to the size you need! The twin wire style of planners seem to work well. As for other hard cover journals and notebooks, it is just getting the proper measurements. With the exact measurements to the nearest 1/8", I can custom fit a cover that will fit like a glove or your money back.
