"The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." - Jacques Cousteau

I am a professional fine art photographer, specializing in abstract and long exposure seascape photography.

The ocean is my main source of inspiration, and it's what got me into photography to begin with. I am captivated by the coast. Photographing seascapes is a form of meditation for me; even when the ocean is angry and I am running frantically from the waves with tripod in hand, I am at once exhilarated and humbled. I love finding new ways of interpreting the same scene. I often work in the abstract, using intentional camera movement to distill the colors and elements of a scene into a wash of color and light. I also use long exposures to turn moving elements into a blur, in contrast to the stationary elements of a scene. I try to create images that are unique, and create an emotional connection with the viewer.

As an Etsy seller, I love what I do and I put a lot of effort and pride into my prints. Every order is custom-printed on demand to the customer's specifications. I love the direct connection with clients that I can have on Etsy. I make a point of responding to clients' questions and requests as quickly as possible; thanks to the Etsy iPhone app, I can usually respond to messages and orders within an hour, no matter where I am! It's so rewarding to be able to create something unique and special for someone else, and to know that my work is out there hanging in homes around the world is just an amazing feeling. It really never gets old, and I am thankful for each and every order.

In 2016, my work will be featured on season six of the ABC Family hit television show "Pretty Little Liars." I have been awarded grants for artist residencies by the Nantucket Island School of Art and Design, Turkey Land Cove Foundation on Martha's Vineyard, MA and Hypatia-in-the-Woods in Shelton, Washington. My work has been featured on the walls of the famed Hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica, California; the Summer Camp Hotel in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard; the CBS television show "The Doctors," and my images have been featured in Apartment Therapy, USAToday, Four Seasons Magazine, Complex Magazine, Carolina Woman Magazine, Luri & Wilma Magazine, the 2013 State of Rhode Island Tourism Guide (cover image), Islands Magazine, Rhode Island Monthly magazine, Photography Week Magazine, and Landscape Photography Magazine. I have exhibited my work in juried exhibitions at Peter Miller Fine Art in Providence, RI; the Irvine Gallery in Kennebunkport, Maine; Lyceum Gallery in Lewiston, ME; the York Art Association in York, ME; the Chocolate Church Gallery in Bath, ME; Bristol Art Museum in Bristol, RI; the Portsmouth Arts Guild in Portsmouth, RI; Arterie Fine Arts in Naperville, IL; and the Save the Bay Center in Providence, RI.

I have permanent gallery representation through UGallery, an online, selectively curated gallery which represents the nation's top mid-career and emerging artists. Visit my UGallery profile to view and purchase limited edition prints of some of my best pieces: http://kgendreauphoto.ugallery.com

My work is also represented by Wild Apple Graphics, a leading fine arts publisher based in Woodstock, Vermont.

Various prints and copies of my work are currently for sale at the Nubble Lighthouse gift shop in Cape Neddick, Maine; the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum in Jamestown, Rhode Island; and at the Only in Rhode Island store in Newport, Rhode Island. A selection of my work is available for commercial licensing through Getty Images, Image Conscious and Crestock.

Frequently asked questions
Return and Exchange Details

I offer unframed prints, framed prints, canvas gallery wraps, and metal prints. Each piece is made to order. Given the custom nature of my work, only some items can be returned.

Canvas wraps under 40 inches in length can be returned within 14 days of delivery. Please contact me within 7 days of receiving your order to initiate a return. Clients are responsible for return shipping costs. Canvases larger than 40 inches are not eligible for returns.

Framed prints may have the frame exchanged, but cannot be refunded. Contact me within 7 days of receiving your order to initiate a frame exchange.

Metal prints and unframed prints are not eligible for returns or refunds.

If any item arrives damaged or defective, I will replace it at no cost.

When will my order ship?

Shipping/processing times can't be guaranteed due to the custom nature of my work, type/size of product, shipping delays/issues, and other factors which I cannot necessarily control. Oversized framed/canvas pieces may take 3-4 wks due to the special mounting that labs use. That said, most orders ship within the following timeframes:

Standard shipping:
- Prints =16x20 in: 3-6 days.
- Canvas gallery wraps: 7-14 days.
- Metal prints: 3-4 days.
- Acrylic prints: 4-6 days.
- Framed prints: 10-14 days.

Rush shipping:
- Prints = 16x20: 1-2 days.
- Canvas gallery wraps: within 5 business days.
- Metal prints: 1-2 business days.
- Framed prints: 5-7 business days.

What kind of paper should I choose?

Most photos print beautifully on both fine art paper and lustre paper, so you really can't go wrong no matter which paper you choose.

Having said that, colorful or scenic photos print best on lustre paper, as the semi-gloss finish enhances the saturation and contrast in these images.

Abstract photographs print well on both paper types, but fine art paper enhances the painterly, impressionist quality of these photos.

For black and white photos, I find that fine art paper works best as it brings out the subtle gradations of tones, and enhances the traditional artistic quality of black and white photography.

What is the difference between lustre and fine art paper?

The biggest difference between lustre and fine art paper is that lustre has a semi-matte finish with a very slight texture, whereas fine art paper has a totally matte, smooth finish. The print process is different for both paper types, as well - lustre prints are created using a traditional, chromogenic print process, whereas fine art prints are created using a giclee, inkjet print process. Fine art prints are more expensive to create both because of the print process and the paper is more expensive than lustre. Both papers are archival (will not fade) for 100 years when displayed under glass in normal lighting conditions.

Can you print at custom sizes?

Yes, most images can be printed at custom sizes. This usually requires the image to be cropped from its original ratio. Extensive cropping will limit how large the image can be printed. Please contact me if you're interested in a custom size.

Can I change the shipping address on my order?

I will ship your order to the address that you entered during the checkout process. Please review your shipping address carefully prior to placing your order. I process orders within 24 hours of receiving them, so if you find that you have made a mistake on your shipping address, please contact me within 24 hours of placing your order. Once an order ships, it is the client's responsibility to contact the shipping provider and have the shipment rerouted to a different address. USPS, FedEx, and UPS all offer rerouting options. I cannot ship a new print to another address after your order ships to the address provided at checkout.

I accidentally placed an order or made a mistake on my order. What can be done about this?

Buyers are responsible for carefully reviewing their orders prior to placing them. If you make a mistake on your order (e.g., order two of the same item, etc) please contact me within 24 hours. Otherwise, I will proceed with your order as placed, and my standard return policy will apply.

Do you sell digital downloads of your photographs?

I do not sell digital downloads of my work. I am a full time artist and make my living selling fine art prints of my work in galleries and online, so my files are really the lifeblood of how I make my living. If I were ever to sell them, the pricing for a file would be much higher than that of a single print.

That said, I create my work with a large format, professional DSLR camera and professional lenses, and collaborate closely with an extremely high-end printer who custom prints each photograph to order, creating the best possible print result. I take great pride in my work, from researching, scouting, and photographing my subjects, all the way through the print process. I am happy to create the best possible quality print for you.

What are your shop hours?
