About

"The Sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever." - Jacques Cousteau

I am a full-time professional fine art photographer, specializing in abstract and long exposure seascape photography.

The ocean is my main source of inspiration, and it's what got me into photography to begin with. I am captivated by the coast. Photographing seascapes is a form of meditation for me; even when the ocean is angry and I am running frantically from the waves with tripod in hand, I am at once exhilarated and humbled. I love finding new ways of interpreting the same scene. I often work in the abstract, using intentional camera movement to distill the colors and elements of a scene into a wash of color and light. I also use long exposures to turn moving elements into a blur, in contrast to the stationary elements of a scene. I try to create images that are unique, and create an emotional connection with the viewer.

As a full-time Etsy seller, I love what I do and I put a lot of effort and pride into my prints. Every order is custom-printed on demand to the customer's specifications. I love the direct connection with clients that I can have on Etsy. I make a point of responding to clients' questions and requests as quickly as possible; thanks to the Etsy iPhone app, I can usually respond to messages and orders within an hour, no matter where I am! It's so rewarding to be able to create something unique and special for someone else, and to know that my work is out there hanging in homes around the world is just an amazing feeling. It really never gets old, and I am thankful for each and every order.

In 2016, my work will be featured on season six of the ABC Family hit television show "Pretty Little Liars." I have been awarded grants for artist residencies by the Nantucket Island School of Art and Design, Turkey Land Cove Foundation on Martha's Vineyard, MA and Hypatia-in-the-Woods in Shelton, Washington. My work has been featured on the walls of the famed Hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica, California; the Summer Camp Hotel in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard; the CBS television show "The Doctors," and my images have been featured in Apartment Therapy, USAToday, Four Seasons Magazine, Complex Magazine, Carolina Woman Magazine, Luri & Wilma Magazine, the 2013 State of Rhode Island Tourism Guide (cover image), Islands Magazine, Rhode Island Monthly magazine, Photography Week Magazine, and Landscape Photography Magazine. I have exhibited my work in juried exhibitions at Peter Miller Fine Art in Providence, RI; the Irvine Gallery in Kennebunkport, Maine; Lyceum Gallery in Lewiston, ME; the York Art Association in York, ME; the Chocolate Church Gallery in Bath, ME; Bristol Art Museum in Bristol, RI; the Portsmouth Arts Guild in Portsmouth, RI; Arterie Fine Arts in Naperville, IL; and the Save the Bay Center in Providence, RI.

I have permanent gallery representation through UGallery, an online, selectively curated gallery which represents the nation's top mid-career and emerging artists. Visit my UGallery profile to view and purchase limited edition prints of some of my best pieces: http://kgendreauphoto.ugallery.com

My work is also represented by Wild Apple Graphics, a leading fine arts publisher based in Woodstock, Vermont.

Various prints and copies of my work are currently for sale at the Nubble Lighthouse gift shop in Cape Neddick, Maine; the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum in Jamestown, Rhode Island; and at the Only in Rhode Island store in Newport, Rhode Island. A selection of my work is available for commercial licensing through Getty Images, Image Conscious and Crestock.

Welcome to my shop!

My name is Katherine Gendreau; I am a fine art photographer from Rhode Island. I specialize in images of coastal New England, with a focus on the Rhode Island coast, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Maine.

As a working professional photographer, I take great pride in my work and the products I offer in my shop. I work with professional labs to print my images and canvas gallery wraps at the highest level of quality available, using archival inks and photo papers. When preparing items for shipping, I take time to package prints and canvases with care to ensure that they arrive in perfect condition.

My images are created using professional full-frame camera equipment and lenses, and I finish each photo using industry standard post-processing practices to ensure the highest level of image quality when printed.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about a particular product, image, or shop policy. Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy my work!

Payment
I accept payment by PayPal and credit card, as well as through Etsy Direct Checkout.
Shipping
I will ship your order to the address listed in your Etsy receipt.

Prints are shipped within 7 days of receiving payment. I will send you a confirmation email after your order has been shipped. Prints size 16x24 inches are sealed inside a cellophane package to protect against moisture damage and then sandwiched between two acid-free, rigid pieces of cardboard. Prints larger than 16x24 inches will be shipped wrapped in plastic and/or tissue paper, and rolled in a rigid tube.

Canvas gallery wraps and metal prints are shipped directly from my print lab to minimize transit time and exposure to shipping hazards.

For shipping within the US, I usually use USPS Priority Mail or FedEx. For smaller prints and calendars, I use USPS First Class or Media Mail. Prints shipped with USPS Priority Mail typically take 2-4 business days to arrive at their destination. USPS First Class or Media Mail typically takes 2-6 business days. For canvas gallery wraps, I use FedEx or UPS Ground shipping. UPS Ground usually takes between 3-5 days to deliver, but may take longer to the West Coast of the United States or Canada.

Packages shipped via Priority Mail, FedEx or UPS Ground will include tracking information. When I ship a package using these services, I include the tracking information in the shipping confirmation email to the buyer.

EXPRESS SHIPPING
If you need an item to arrive sooner, there are rush shipping options available during the checkout process.

CANCELED ORDERS
Because my prints are made-to-order, and the labs that I work with do not accept returns on custom prints, I cannot cancel and refund an order after it has been processed by my print lab. If you wish to cancel an order, you may do so within ONE DAY of placing the order. In the case of smaller prints, if the lab has already processed and shipped the item, I may allow the cancellation but charge a restocking fee for the print since I will have already paid for it. The restocking fee will depend upon the size and cost of the print in question.

LOST AND DAMAGED ITEMS
Damaged or defective items: I will gladly replace any item that arrives damaged or defective. While I take great care and pride in packaging items for shipping, very rarely, larger items such as canvas gallery wraps may be subject to damage during shipping. The labs that I work with will replace any such item at no additional cost to the client. Please contact me as soon as you receive the item and let me know if the item has arrived in imperfect condition, and I will have a replacement shipped to you as soon as possible.

If a package seems to have been lost in transit, I will work with the shipping provider first to determine the whereabouts of the package. This process can take up to a week. If the shipping provider cannot locate the package, I will file a claim with the shipping company, and will ship a replacement item to the client as soon as possible.

CUSTOMS CHARGES
Larger items that are shipped outside of the United States may incur additional fees or customs charges. Since these charges vary from country to country and are dependant on the size and content of the package, I cannot predict what these charges will be. The buyer is therefore responsible for paying customs charges. Returns will not be accepted due to customs fees.
Refunds and Exchanges
CANVAS GALLERY WRAPS:
Canvas gallery wraps can be returned for a refund, minus shipping charges, within 2 weeks of delivery date. Please contact me if you'd like to return a canvas.

FRAMED PRINTS:
Framed prints can be returned within 30 days of delivery, or the frame can be changed if you are not totally satisfied with your framed print. Please contact me if you'd like to return or exchange a framed print.

PHOTO PRINTS, METAL PRINTS AND ACRYLIC PRINTS:
Because my prints are custom made-to-order, and the labs that I work with do not accept returns on custom prints, I cannot cancel and refund an order after it has been processed by my print lab.

DAMAGED OR DEFECTIVE ITEMS:
If your order arrives damaged, I will gladly replace any item that arrives damaged or defective. While I take great care and pride in packaging items for shipping, very rarely, larger items such as canvas gallery wraps may be subject to damage during shipping. The labs that I work with will replace any such item at no additional cost to the client. Please contact me as soon as you receive the item and let me know if the item has arrived in imperfect condition, and I will have a replacement shipped to you right away.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is the difference between lustre paper and fine art paper?
A. The biggest difference between lustre and fine art paper is that lustre has a semi-matte finish with a very slight texture, whereas fine art paper has a totally matte, smooth finish. The print process is different for both paper types, as well - lustre prints are created using a traditional, chromogenic print process, whereas fine art prints are created using a giclee, inkjet print process. Fine art prints are more expensive to create both because of the print process and the paper is more expensive than lustre. Both papers are archival (will not fade) for 100 years when displayed under glass in normal lighting conditions.

Lustre paper is my standard go-to paper choice, and works perfectly for most everything. If you're hanging a print in a place where glare isn't an issue, lustre paper will work perfectly for you. I consider fine art paper to be more of a "luxury paper", it's nice to have, but not really necessary! Some people prefer the matte, fine art look. Generally speaking, I prefer lustre paper for my regular colorful landscape images because the semi-gloss finish accentuates color and contrast, and fine art paper for my abstract images, since the latter tends to accentuate the "painterly" quality of the abstracts.

Q. Can an image be printed at a custom size?
A. Yes, most images can be printed at custom sizes. This usually requires the image to be cropped from its original ratio. Extensive cropping will limit how large the image can be printed. Please contact me if you're interested in a custom size.

Q. When will my order ship?
A. With standard shipping:
- Prints 12x18 and smaller: 1-2 business days.
- Prints 16x20 and larger: 3-6 business days.
- Canvas gallery wraps: 7-10 business days.
- Metal prints: 3-4 business days.
- Acrylic prints: 4-6 business days.
- Framed prints: 7-10 business days.

With expedited shipping:
- Prints 12x18 and smaller: 1-2 business days.
- Prints 16x20 and larger: 1-2 business days.
- Canvas gallery wraps: within 5 business days.
- Metal prints: 1-2 business days.
- Framed prints: 5-7 business days.
