Welcome to Knee Deep Originals! Creating art is my passion, something my soul needs, and all of the paintings you see here are original and one of a kind. I also offer high quality and professional prints of some of my paintings as well as fine art photography. Please view the feedback from my customers. I believe, after reading it, you will feel completely confident to purchase from me.
I use brushes and paint to create a variety of fine art paintings on canvas and paper and on upcycled housewares. Each piece is inspired by nature and the world around me: woodland breezes, bird songs, sunlit skies, mountains and trees. Created in a smoke-free studio in the middle of the North Carolina woods and foothills, my paintings and artwork share with you a vision of the place where I live as well as a little bit of my heart and soul.
I am happy to do commissioned work, custom designs, and pet or people portraits in oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Simply convo me to let me know what you have in mind and I will do my best to make that item very special, just for you!
Please note that many of my items benefit animal charities, either locally, nationally or internationally. Animal welfare is extremely important to me and very dear to my heart. I am a member of Etsy for Animals and donate each month to a charity that works for the good of wildlife (Project Coyote, Wildlife Center of Virginia, Red Wolf Coalition, International Wolf Center), or that offers sanctuary and care for farm animals or other animals (Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge, Full Moon Farm, Animal Place), or which works to improve the lives of and find foster homes for domesticated pets (The Whiskers Syndicate, Stokes County Humane Society, National Mill Dog Rescue).

5 out of 5 starsI'm thrilled with how much of a success it was purchasing this painting as a gift for my parents... "The messenger bird made it safe from your home into our hearts conveying your lovely hand written message. It is touching, meaningful and very beautiful. The watercolor work is stunning. The painting now hangs in a portion of a wall that had been empty for 10 full years - the perfect completion to our dining room decor. You might not see it from the picture but the frame has tons of grey which is lovely as it mimics the grey feathers of the bird. I really love the color of the frame as it completely enhances the beauty of the art. We love it- thank you thank you!"
I've been a patron of Rebecca's work for a number of years- it's always a GREAT experience buying from this shop. My own home is filled with Dresser's work. -

5 out of 5 starsI had a wren spend all winter huddled on a rafter in the corner of my porch. I enjoyed seeing him settled In for the night. By the time I got out there each morning he had already left for the day. He was a fusser but I enjoyed having him as a guest. This little picture will be a great reminder. The photo captured the wren close up and in detail, great colors. Nice touches of kindness from seller that makes you feel valued. Also fast shipping. Thank you!

5 out of 5 starsThis artist must be a dog-lover to paint them with such skill and sensitivity. The painting I bought is of a pound puppy that looks so much like our rescue Spanky. The eyes are incredibly soft and expressive, the nose looks moist and the white whiskers are amazing. i couldn’t be more thrilled with this small painting which was shipped quickly!

Nature-Inspired Art ... handmade and original... from my heart and soul to your walls and home
THE STORY OF MY ART: Painting is a necessary part of my life, much like breathing. My work is inspired by the life I see around me, and that is the beautiful life of the woods, the sky, the mountains, and the people in my community. I aim to express that beauty and share it with others. When someone purchases my art, it's an uplifting moment for me because it means that I am sharing a bit of my soul and a piece of my world with someone else. For me, that is the essence of Etsy... it allows my art to travel across the continent or fly across the globe to be a part of someone else's life and home, and I hope that it brings a sense of joy to all those who see it. I believe each piece of art expresses its own spirit and soul ... and somehow it will find its way to the person for whom it speaks loudest... or whispers quietly.
THE STORY OF MY ART SPACE: I work out of a small single-person studio and shop located in the beautiful woods of Stokes County, NC... smoke-free, but definitely not pet-free as my dogs often accompany me to the studio where paintings originate and are brought to life. In the summer when I look out my studio windows, I see our lush green garden growing fresh goodies while our flock of hens roam about. In the wintertime, when the colors have changed to gray and brown, I can see straight through the woods to the Saura Mountains stretching out across the horizon. It is like heaven, and I can easily lose track of time in my studio with a paintbrush in my hand. These are just some of the sights that inspire my work.
THE STORY OF MY SHOP NAME: When we left the city and moved to the rural countryside in 2004, I found myself with more time on my hands than I'd had before (my three kids were grown and out on their own), and I became a more serious and prolific painter. And hence the story of my business name. I quickly found myself "knee deep" in canvases, both completed and blank, scattered throughout the house. Fortunately it also led to the construction of my studio building. I like my business name because it makes people smile and they ask questions about it. It gets a conversation started about the process of art.
THE STORY OF YOU AND ME: I hope you will enjoy looking through my shop here on Etsy. Perhaps something will speak or whisper to you. Perhaps the art here will simply give you a moment of beauty, a chance to smile, a time to reflect. And that is okay too.

Rebecca Dresser
Owner, Artist, Musician
I listen to the music in the world around me - in the songs of birds, in the rhythms of the seasons, in the voices of people and animals I love. These things influence the way I create art and music, and I find myself knee deep in their beauty.

Custom and personalized orders
I am happy to create a custom painting for you. Simply contact me with your interests and needs, and we can get started on a piece that will be perfect for you and your home or for a gift.
Gift wrapping and packaging
All of my art is carefully and lovingly packaged to keep it safe while it travels to you. I also work hard to prepare a package that you will be delighted to receive and open. If you purchase something to give as a gift and would like it gift-wrapped, simply let me know and I will be sure to make it extra special and to include a gift tag and note.
Care instructions
My acrylic paintings are finished with at least two coats of varnish to protect the artwork from harmful UV rays, dust and dirt. All you need to do is gently wipe them from time to time with a dry, soft cloth. My unframed watercolors are sealed inside clear, archival pouches upon completion and adequate dry time. They are shipped to you this way. I recommend acid-free mats and glare-free glass when you mat and frame them. If I have framed them already, you can rest assured that they are given the ultimate care in mat and frame choice.
Sizing details
Each listing lets you know what size the artwork is. Please be sure to read the detailed description for each listing you are interested in so you can be certain that the size of the painting is what you are looking for and will fit your needs.
