About

I really did knit in class.

A knitter for years, I began exploring the wonderful world of hand dyed yarns and fibers in the late '00s. It wasn't long before I started to experiment with dyeing on my own. Largely self-taught, I learned from a kit of primary colors and a sheet of instructions. I began producing more hand dyed yarn and wool than I could ever knit or spin on my own, and the Knits in Class Fiber Studio was born.

Knits in Class gets its name from the days when I really did knit in class. I was an art history graduate student, then a professor for a short time after graduation. I started Knits in Class during my last semester of teaching, and quickly realized that my talents and interests lay in playing with color, not teaching. (My former students are probably grateful I did not return to the classroom.)

Welcome to Knits In Class Fiber Studio!

Knits in Class Fiber Studio is an earth-friendly shop, committed to selling and using eco friendly Greener Shades dyes, biodegradable packaging, and low-energy dye methods.

I strive to create the best possible product for you. All yarns and fibers are hand made by me. I dye using eco-friendly products: natural dyes along with metal-free Greener Shades professional grade washfast and colorfast dyes. I handle the fiber and yarn as little as possible during the dyeing process, and allow for gradual temperature changes during the process. The fibers and yarns are dried outside in the fresh Minnesota air whenever possible.

Because each skein is hand dyed individually, there will be slight variations between skeins, even within the same colorways. This is part of the beauty of handmade pieces.

I do my best to represent the color of each item accurately, but, as you know, colors can vary between different computer monitors.

Need more? Looking for a certain color? I'd love to work with you - send me a convo and we can work together to create a custom item.

*Products come from a smoke-free, pet-friendly studio (my kitty likes to hang out while I work)*
