Definition of knockabout: suitable for rough use, as in knockabout clothing

I love treasure hunts and find that the thrift stores of the American West make for some of the best!

For the past sixteen years I've worked as a costumer in the Film Industry, where I frequently spend months on the road, working and staying in small towns across the country, scouring local thrift stores, estate sales, and flea markets for unique items and assisting Costume Designers in creating memorable and distinctive characters on screen. I love creating cohesive closets and asking "who is this character and how does this item work for them?" But, while I love to create a story, I never want to feel that I, or anyone, is wearing a costume.

And now I'm turning my sights on you!

This store began as a place to sell the unique pieces I frequently come across and can't turn down, and also out of a desire to reduce my carbon footprint, reuse so many amazing pieces that have already been manufactured, and as way to combat fast fashion and the harm it does on our environment. I believe in mending and tending vs. trending and appreciate well made and previously loved, unique items that may have been mended, darned, or patched along the way.

I would highly recommend buying a measuring tape and having a friend measure you before ordering vintage clothing online. Sizes mean almost nothing at a certain point, but knowing your bust, waist, and hip measurements can help translate otherwise arbitrary numbers. For bust measurements, wrap the tape, firmly but not too tightly, around your chest, over your nipples. For waist, wrap it around your torso, over your bellybutton. And for hip, go around your butt and over the widest part of your hips. I will always try to give you the most accurate measurements, in inches, that I can.

While great care is taken in selecting and describing items, I cannot possibly list every detail. Typically, I do not sell damaged items. Every effort will be made to note any flaw which may effect wearability or visual aesthetic of item.
-Minor issues may not be noted if it does not effect wearability.
-Previously worn clothing may have small flaws that have been overlooked.
-Measurements are approximate, please allow 1/4" margin of error...feel free to request detailed measurements on specific items.
-Color descriptions are subjective and best represented by accompanied image(s).
-Expect to launder/dry clean all items before wear. Everything is clean in appearance, unless otherwise noted, but may have wrinkles, creases and minor odor(s) from storage.
-Returns are only accepted if the item is grossly misrepresented in our description or specifically agreed upon prior to sale, NOT due to ill fit, or buyer's opinion regarding color, material content, condition, age, style, size, etc, etc.
-All items sold "AS IS". Buyer will be responsible for ALL shipping charges.
-Feel free to ask any questions PRIOR to purchase.

And, a few more tips from my costuming career...
-Double sided tape really does work, we use it all of the time to keep things in place. A brand called Topstick (they also make a super strong version called Superstick) is available at Western Costume Company.
-For yellow underarm stains: mix equal parts Dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda in a bowl. Rub into the stain and let sit for a while. Rinse with water. Let dry. Repeat as necessary.
-For stain removal: Carbona Stain Devils are the best! They come in specific formulas for many kinds of stains. The grease one is totally amazing! Available at Amazon.
-To stretch leather shoes and boots: mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle, spray inside the shoe or boot, wear while still damp.
(No company paid me to say any of this, but their products work and I thought you should know about them! And, if they want to start paying me, that would be fine!!)

Also, if you love something but are worried about the fit and the no return policy, I have been known to make some return policy exceptions. So, send me a message and we can discuss.
