Woven Art of the Pacific Northwest

Knotty Wolfe Macrame was created in 2019 by artist Maxine Roach. Based in Bend Oregon, Knotty Wolfe specializes in using local materials of the Pacific Northwest such as antlers and gemstones to create beautiful, unique macrame pieces for you and your home.

Growing up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California, Maxine has always been inspired by nature and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Once settled down in Central Oregon, she was able to find a way to combine the beauty of the PNW with the art of macrame.

Her love for knots all started in 2012, when Maxine started attending Oregon State University (Cascade Campus) where she studied Outdoor Leadership. There she learned the skills necessary to survive in the PNW wilderness, including technical knots. After graduating from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in Adventure Leadership Education, she went on to work in the outdoor field as a whitewater raft guide for many years. However, a series of snowboarding injuries and knee surgeries prevented her from going on as an outdoor guide.

In the winter of 2018, Maxine went through her seventh knee surgery. She was bored of watching TV all the time, and wanted to find something new to pass the time.

“I was going crazy that winter! I have had so many knee surgeries and that winter I knew I needed to do something else besides read and watch movies to pass the time. Deep down I knew that I wanted to do something creative and crafty, but I didn’t know what until I saw a macrame wall hanging at my best friend's house. I was in love with it! Then it hit me… I can tie knots! I studied mountaineering in college and learning all of the technical knots was my favorite part. So I bought some cord and learned the art of macrame. It felt so good to learn something new and in a way I was using my college degree!

Care instructions

Thank you so much for supporting my small business!

Wall Hangings

Always hang pieces with a sturdy nail at a 45 degree angle. For heavier pieces, I recommend hanging them where there is a stud or anchor in the wall.

Wall hangings might get a little kinked in the shipping process. Once you hang your new piece, comb through the cord with your fingers to straighten it out a bit. If you have tassels in your new piece, feel free to comb them out with a brush. The cord will naturally straighten itself out after hanging for a couple days.

If you have any other questions feel free to send me a message!
