About

Dainty Hawaii inspired jewelry

KOMAKAI Jewelry launched in 2014 after a trip to Japan inspired the designer to explore jewelry design after running a bridal accessories business for several years. From the designer: "Revisiting Japan after 15 years since studying abroad in college, my eyes saw this incredible country through a new creative lens. I was mesmerized by the beauty found in the minimalist aesthetic Japan is famed for mastering. There is no place that better exemplifies “less is more”. I craved a new medium to explore this new inspiration; jewelry felt like a natural progression in my artistic journey.”

KOMAKAI is a play on words - in literal translation, Komakai means “delicate” in Japanese, and “Makai” means “towards the ocean” in Hawaiian. True to its namesake, Komakai Jewelry seeks to interpret the majestic, powerful beauty of the ocean into delicate, wearable pieces featuring semi precious gemstones such as chalcedony, chrysoprase, freshwater pearls, and aquamarine.

Each piece is handmade out of the designer’s home studio minutes away from iconic Diamond Head on Oahu, Hawaii.

Born in Taiwan and raised in Honolulu, I worked in luxury retail for 10 years which sparked an appreciation for design. After running a bridal accessories business for a few years, jewelry felt like a natural progression in my artistic journey.
