Very pretty little spacer beads- photos are an accurate representation. Seller accidentally sent wrong item and very quickly sent the correct item with apologies. I will happily return for more beads!

About

Trying New Things...

WATCH MY VIDEO ABOVE - See how I create a bead!

Coming from a graphic design background, I have always loved art, design, and fines arts. My husband and I owned a saltwater fish and aquarium retail shop for 30 years and just recently sold it to pursue etsy full time. Please visit his shop here on etsy for some beautiful wooden creations, including chalkboard organizers, planter boxes, wedding decor, and much more: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BeachWoodKreations

I have been making jewelry for many years, and would purchase beautfiul lampwork beads on etsy, until one day I decided that I would love to learn to create these little gems myself. I took a class with a wonderful local lampworker, and haven't looked back since. I look forward everyday to waking up and sitting down at my torch to create something beautiful.

The process of making a lamp work bead starts by taking a mandrel which is a steel rod (in the diameter of whatever hole size you need to achieve) and coating it with a thin cement like product (bead release) to prevent the bead from sticking permanently to the mandrel. Once all my mandrels are coated, I am ready to start the bead-making process. I use soft glass, because this is what I am used to, and love the capabilities I can achieve with the different colors. Using a propane and oxygen mix torch, which is mounted to my work station, I begin to melt a rod of glass into a pea-size blob, and then wrap it around the mandrel to form a bead… sounds easy, right? hahaha…takes some practice to get a nice size, round or donut shaped bead… but eventually it becomes easier! I use pure silver foil in my designs, and I love using frit (tiny broken chips of glass) in many colors and mixtures of colors… these are what really make my beads beautiful… I get many frit mixes from some wonderful "frit artists", and I create my own mixes as well! Once the bead is to my liking, I put it into my kiln, which is preheated to around 900 degrees… where it stays until it goes through the entire 10-12 hour annealing process. This process heats the beads and then slowly cools them to make them strong and hopefully will help them to last for years to come. Once they are finished, and cooled to room temperature, I remove them from the mandrels, clean the bead release from the holes with a diamond bit dremel… and either etch them or leave them shiny… then they are ready to be photographed!! You know the rest, because the end results are here in my Etsy shop.
