Krissi's Art Studio

Krissi claims she was raised by a pack of wild attorneys and a large console color television in the SF Bay Area during the 1970s and 80s.

She draws artistic inspiration from pop culture kitsch & geekery, and the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. During the 90s, Krissi lived in San Francisco’s Mission District, a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, where the neighborhood's mixture of cultures made a lasting impression on the descendant of Norwegian and German immigrants.

Skelekitty appeared for the first time in 2006, when Krissi was asked to create something for a Sacramento area cat rescue fundraiser. She initially envisioned one art quilt with a 1950’s style cat combined with a Mexican Catrina, but the skeleton cat was more popular than she ever could have imagined. Since that day, Skelekitty has appeared in additional art quilts, paintings, jewelry and even rubber stamps. Krissi claims Skelekitty has developed into a personality all her own.

Plagued by curiosity, Krissi is a life-long student and continues to explore different mediums in which to create. Since starting as a fiber artist, she has learned pyrography (wood burning) and works with chalk pastels, inks, papers, and her favorites: acrylic paints, gels and glazes. She enjoys experimenting with different substrates and “off label” uses of her art supplies.

Krissi currently lives in the rural California gold rush town of El Dorado with her husband, two cats, desert tortoise and a Jack Russell Terrier, Abby.

    Mischief Maker

Skelekitty appeared for the first time in 2006, and was initially envisioned as a one time piece for a cat rescue fundraiser. However, Krissi soon discovered that this cross between a 1950’s retro kitty and a Mexican Catrina had bigger plans!
