Kristen's Coverlets Story
In October 2011, I had the opportunity to visit the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park, NY right near where I spent the first few years of my life. My Great Aunt Lena who lived her entire life in nearby Rhinebeck designed and sewed for FDR’s family and I spent lots of time in her sewing room as a very little girl. I was inspired to start sewing again after this visit and chose to specialize in children's clothing and blankets. My shop became a reality on Etsy in February 2012 and I work in it full-time. I love choosing unconventional fabrics and designs that will make people notice them. Unique fabrics and designs are my passion! Many of these come from my extensive personal fabric collection and are no longer available which makes my items definitely one-of-a-kind!
I have taught crochet classes and am an avid knitter. These abilities tend to go hand-in-hand with my sewing as I can always create an accessory to go with the items I create. I usually have knitted, crocheted and sewn baby items in the shop.
I love to make all kinds of baby blankets including the use of designer cottons, minky and fleece. These are fabrics which become softer over time and wear well. They can be used year round to keep little ones warm, to carry around or to play on. My goal is to make my blankets last for a child as long as they want or need them.
My passion for blankets goes way back...When I was quite little, I had an afghan which I took everywhere with me until it turned into a small square of unrecognizable fabric. While grocery shopping with my parents, I dropped the afghan in the store and, when I realized it was missing, became inconsolable. My wonderful Dad went to the store manager and was able to rescue the afghan from the garbage bin. I would hope that the items I make become favorites with your children and are treasured as much as that afghan square was.
I take pride in the fabrics and yarns I utilize in all of my projects and in the work I put into each one. And yes, I am a Packers fan!
Thanks for the opportunity to share my craft with you!
