From design to product...

I've always loved illustration from such a young age. Growing up, I remember creating my first character and mascot whom I named Tylon (who I still use to this day!). I used to carry a sketchbook everywhere- doodling on the go. It wasn't up until high school things started to turn around for the worse when I took my first traditional art class. I struggled through the course, under constant criticism with no understanding of what I was doing wrong, or what the issue was with my work. Why was my work being featured on the wall when it had such low grades? I ended up failing the art class. It was detrimental at that point in time. I was heartbroken and torn, thinking maybe my passion led me astray- and maybe I wasn't good enough.

I stopped doing anything traditional. I stopped carrying around sketchbooks and pencils. I became more invested in web design and started to work with digital mediums through the help of my Wacom Intuos tablet. It wasn't up until my senior year my teacher (more of a mentor) told me I HAD to take a digital design class, and I was very hesitant because I did not have the three art classes required to take it. Somehow, someway, he got me into this digital design class.

It was life-changing.

I went into the class a little late, two weeks late for that fact. I remember the first project I ever did won an award and was actually featured at a local gallery for a limited time. I remember my digital design teacher (also more of a mentor) took the time to explain to me on how to develop designs and processes- even taking it out of her own hands as a teacher and helping me create a portfolio and apply to colleges.

Eventually, I went off to college and obtained a bachelors degree in computer graphics & new media. I took extra courses in business and law because I wanted to know how said topics applied to design and art. Through my journey, I won more awards- my biggest win was Freshman year winning the regional design competition allowing my partner and I to travel to California for nationals on desktop publishing. I realized after four years and a new degree, getting out there in the real world only meant there was so much more out there.

I graduated from college in 2012. It was also In 2012 I started selling plush goods under my alias name, Tylonproducts. At this point in time, I also started helping out a good friend at his machine shop, running his CNC plasma cutter and helping him design metal art for his craft shows and fairs. I started to see how art and design could apply to actual products. I started to see how a design could be taken from the screen of a computer and be cut out on metal. I also started to see customer relations- attending craft shows and events allowed me to interact with people and learn about how to become more personable.

I soon ended up with a full-time job in 2013 where most of my crafting came to a standstill. I spent the next six years working on my career doing very little in my hobby work. Within these six years, I realized something invaluable thanks to my job. Art is never perfect. Everybody has their own style. You cannot always please everyone, and that is ok. For me, it's not a competition. It's simply me doing something that I love. And with that being said, I want to share that with others through what I make and post.

In 2017 it was a game changer. I purchased an iPad pro. I started getting back into art and daily drawing again, only to start my "Drawing a Day" challenge in 2018. I made it a goal to try and create something every day- whether it be a doodle, sketch, pattern or mock-up. I had forgotten how much I truly loved creating things. Thus, Kristhecreative was born as my alias for showing off my illustrations and fun hobby work.

Through the amazing and wonderful support of friends and family, I decided I would give Etsy a try and open up a shop to sell a variety of goods- everything from digital downloads, small run prints all the way up to handcrafted goods; made by me.

All digital downloads and artwork provided on the crafts are created by myself.

Is all of the stuff in this shop original?

Yes! I have drawn and/or created everything in this shop. From time to time, I might post small batch runs of product from print-on-demand companies (limited quantities). These types of products will have it in the listing. Otherwise, most of my crafts are coming from myself and all my handy dandy tools!
