Contemporary Heirloom Objects in Metal

Working with metals such as silver and gold is a deeply satisfying experience for me. There is something so gratifying about creating a piece that will last for generations, unlike so many of the throwaway products that are manufactured today.

Creativity is a hugely important aspect of my life, one that takes up the majority of my waking hours. I am fortunate to have a job teaching something that I am crazy about, that allows me the flexibility to continuously hone my skills and create my own work.

The act of creating allows us to leave traces of ourselves in this world. It is just one way of leaving a legacy behind us that can inspire, enchant, and fascinate others. If we are fortunate, we get to see how others connect to our work during our lifetime, but one of the most rewarding things about creating metal objects is that they can have such permanence here on earth. A carefully fabricated piece of jewellery should last for generations and be enjoyed by a variety of wearers in its lifetime. That thought inspires much of the work I create.

I am a metalsmith and educator who lives and works in the Canadian Maritimes. Each piece you see is an original object that I have carefully designed and handcrafted. When I am not showing or creating for myself, I teach metalsmithing at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design where I help students of all levels develop personal relationships with metal.
