About kurpisz
From Fiber to Metal; From Loom to Bench.
I started out as a weaver and handspinner. For over a decade, I could not get enough of soft, colorful fiber. I spun yarn for the sheer delight of how it felt and the seeing the colors (and the colors that people dye wool with are absolutely mouthwatering!) meld together into handspun yarn.
My weaving followed a similar path. I was a color weaver, not a process weaver. The pleasure of seeing the interaction of the colors was what kept me going through the tedium of threading and sleying the loom. Dressing the loom was pure work, but seeing a handwoven textile develop beneath my hands was sort of miraculous. And the finished product is really without equal.
Jewelry has always been a significant part of my life. About 4 years ago I took a jewelry making class and learned to work with metal. It was a transformational moment in my life, and I've never looked back. Now I am focusing on making jewelry, but textile techniques keep sneaking in. It makes sense and I think in the future it will help me to create and define my creative voice.
Thanks for sharing the journey with me!
