Welcome to my shop!

I am a formally trained silversmith, but enameling is my passion! Cloisonne is an ancient metalsmithing technique first developed in the early Byzantine era, and is possibly the most easily recognized enameling technique. Enamel is a ground glass, and melts in a kiln at 1400 - 1500 degrees F. The process involved consists of many steps, and is very time-consuming, but I love it!

Cloisonne is an elaborate style of enameling, a process of fusing powdered glass to metal in a kiln that is around 1500 degrees. During this process I hand bend tiny wires then fuse them to a fine silver base. the wires create little areas that i then fill with layers of different colored enamels. I hand-grind all of the enamels i use, so they have the consistency of sand. each individual enameled piece has been fired between 5-15 times. Once the enameling is complete, i grind and polish the enamel, as you would a stone. I hand-make all of the bezels out of sterling silver. Each piece can take anywhere from 10-24 hours to complete, from start to finish. If you have any questions please feel free to convo me.

I use fine silver as the base metal for all of my work, and the cloisonne wires are either fine silver or gold. Many of the enamel colors i use are leaded, but they are safe to wear (as long as you don't chew on them for long periods of time!) All the pieces i have listed in my shop are set in sterling silver, but i can make them in gold. Enamel is glass, so it will never fade or loose its color. These are pieces that will be around for a long time.

Cloisonne is a very intensive process with many steps, so please allow 4-6 weeks for custom orders.
