Thank you for visiting my shop! My name is Rebecca and I love making beautiful jewelry. I started off, as most of us jewelry artisans do, making jewelry for myself and soon had friends and family requesting items. As my inventory of beads and findings grew I decided I needed to start selling my designs and La Bella Designs was born. I handpick all materials and use only the best quality gemstones and precious metals of sterling silver and gold-filled. Everything I make is meticulously checked for quality in workmanship. I hope you enjoy wearing your La Bella Designs jewelry as much as I enjoy making it!

Handcrafted jewelry inspired by the beauty of natural gemstones. All jewelry is made with genuine gemstones, sterling silver and 14K gold-filled. Sometimes I use gold vermeil which will be specified. I pay close attention to quality materials and craftsmanship. Jewelry-making is my passion and I take pride in making quality pieces.

All of my jewelry is made to last. I have spent countless hours doing research to find the best materials and best techniques to ensure that, with proper care, your purchases will last for a lifetime.

Please take care to store your jewelry in the box it comes in without other pieces, this will prevent scratching and tangling. As long as your item does not have pearls, keeping it in a ziplock bag will prevent tarnishing. Pearls should not be kept in a ziplock bag because they need to ‘breathe’. Also, wear your pearls, they need the moisture from your skin to stay moist themselves. Only clean pearls and gemstones with a soft, dry cloth that does not contain chemicals. Tarnish can be removed from sterling silver and gold-filled pieces with a jeweler’s cloth, taking care not to get the chemicals on your gemstones as it can leave a film and make them look dull {you can remove this with a clean dry soft cloth.} DO NOT USE COMMERCIAL CLEANERS OR ULTRASONIC JEWELRY CLEANERS TO CLEAN HANDMADE JEWELRY. Many semi-precious gemstones are porous or can be damaged by these commercial cleaners. Only use a soft dry or slightly damp cloth to clean.

Let your jewelry be the last thing you put on when you get dressed, after lotions, hairspray and perfume as all of these can dull and possibly affect the color of your gemstones {this is good advice for ALL jewelry}. Please do not sleep, clean the house or do strenuous activites in your jewelry. Handmade jewelry is more delicate than mass produced jewelry, wire-wrapped pieces can get bent or gemstones cracked or damaged if hit with hard objects or chemicals or cleaners get on them.

Pearls and gemstones can be cleaned with warm, VERY dilute mild soapy water if needed, rinsed well and dried gently. Note: jeweler’s stringing wire may stretch if you get it wet and then hang it up before it dries completely, so lay your jewelry flat to dry. Wire-wrapped pieces may tarnish more quickly after getting wet, so dry thoroughly. I do use a tarnish-resistant silver for my silver wire-wrapping {Argentium}, so that helps with keeping tarnish to a minimum. Please don’t be intimidated by all these instructions, just treat your jewelry gently and it will last forever.

Sterling Silver is .925% silver content. Fine silver is .999% silver content. Bali silver may be either .925% or .999% silver. Bali silver is often oxidized to give it more character and bring out the details. Argentium silver is a tarnish-resistant sterling silver {.925% silver content}.

Gold-filled is an economical and durable alternative to solid gold. Gold-filled is regulated by the FTC for gold content and may be either 10K, 12K or 14K gold-filled. It is formed by filling a solid tube of gold with a base metal, usually brass. This means all you see and touch is karated gold. The karated gold is bonded with the base metal by a pressure and heat process that is permanent. It will not scratch off or cause your skin to turn green. It is much more durable than gold vermeil. FYI: ‘gold-plated’or ‘gold-dipped’ jewelry is NOT regulated as to gold content and will scratch, tarnish and darken quickly.

Beads: I use natural earth-mined gemstones for almost all pieces. Occasionally some stones have been dyed or treated and that will be noted in the description. I use Swarovski crystals, seed beads and {rarely} glass or Czech crystal beads for accents and I describe all beads used in a jewelry piece. I also use freshwater pearls and look for pearls with the best luster. This is a sign of a thicker nacre {the coating the oyster puts on the nucleus bead}.

Techniques: I use completed wire-wraps in my pieces, as opposed to just simple loops that can get pulled open. It is more time-consuming and costly, but I want to make things that will last. I use the highest gauge {thickest} wire that I can fit through each bead. The jeweler’s wire I pick is 49-strand, which makes it more flexible giving jewelry a nice ‘drape’. It is composed of 49 strands of stainless steel woven together and coated with nylon. I finish the ends with ‘wire gaurdians’ or French wire to protect the exposed wire and give your piece a more ‘finished’ look. I choose clasps that are durable and easy to use. Most necklaces have extension chains so you can get the perfect fit.

Your purchases will arrive packaged to ensure safety during shipping and a lovely presentation when received.
Necklaces will come in a lovely gold foil box with a beautiful La Bella Designs tag attached with a hand-tied ribbon, inside the tag is a list of all the materials used to make your piece! Earrings are presented in a velveteen pouch on a La Bella Designs earring card with descriptions written on back.

Please "convo" me. I love doing custom designs! If you would like earrings to match a necklace or bracelet please convo me. I will also be happy to make modifications to existing designs, such as changing the length or making a silver piece in gold-filled or changing an earring from post to leverback, etc.
