About lacasadecoto

Sales 2,023
On Etsy since 2010

from my house-workshop in Barcelona...

My name is Montse, I live and work in Barcelona, on the shores of the Mediterranean. I studied graphic design and photography. I have worked as a graphic designer for some years.

After living several years in Morocco, already back in Barcelona, I created "La casa de cotó", a small brand of textile home objects where I sell my designs and a selection of unique vintage rugs from the Maghreb,

In my language, Catalan, "La casa de coto" literally means "The house of cotton". Namely, homemade, for the house and hand-knitted, mainly in cotton.

I have recently incorporated into my store the products of a new fair trade project in which I participate, Tashkarugs.

Behind Tashka there is also Hafida and the Berber craftwomen who weave the carpets. It is a story of a meeting between a mountain guide Amazigh and a textile artist from Barcelona. We met in Marrakech more than a decade ago and a little over two years ago our paths crossed again and that's when this exciting project came about.

Tashka is a project that goes beyond the production and commercialization of handmade rugs, it is an initiative with the purpose of showing the true value of the artisanal work of the Amazigh’s women communities from remote areas in Morocco, connect the world with these handmade textile treasures and reinforce ancestral crafting techniques to ensure that these women and their families can live of their talent with dignity.

All our items are handmade, using traditional methods, so production is small but exclusive.

Stuffed the price of the pouf is the same, but increases the price of shipping (is double) in this case and shipping time is also longer.
