About

About Us

Hola!

Thank you for stopping by!

My name is Raul, I am an artist and I am originally from Mexico City. I moved to the UK in 2008 with a bunch of suitcases and my beloved Roxana. Since then we have made the city of Manchester our home.

When I moved to the United Kingdom I started from zero and did a few different jobs where I learned lots of useful things and at the same time I carried on with my art practice on the side dreaming to one day become my own boss.

After a lot of thinking I decided to create La Chuleta Press in 2015 and work on it part time without leaving my part time day job but I soon discovered that if I wanted to make it work I would have to dedicate more time to this little project so after many sleepless nights I finally decided to quit my job in early 2017 and devote my entire time to La Chuleta Press.

The idea behind my artwork is to offer a little bit of Mexican culture to people outside of Mexico projecting two of my life long passions: traditional printmaking and rock n' roll. My aim is to produce Mexican Day of the Dead styled illustrations that reflect some of my interests and personality and turn them into high quality yet affordable art prints, greetings cards and clothing, hoping to make people smile when they see them.

All of my illustrations are hand drawn with ink on a variety of mediums which I scan and process on specialist software where I add colour, textures and typography. Roxana who is a photographer and has a background in Graphic Design helps me make some of these decisions and of course takes the pictures of all of our products. We are a team of two and love what we do. We hope you love it too!

Hasta pronto!
