Welcome to Lady Artisan!

This shop is devoted to my love of leather, books, sculpting and drawing so you'll find a wide variety of unique journals, sketchbooks and notebooks as well as hand tooled leather cuffs and purses, sculpted dolls and figures and original drawings.

I've been working with leather for about 7 years now and that is my main choice of material for book covers, although I do also like to play around with recycled and upcycled items as well as fabric and clay. I've been sculpting for over 10 years and making art dolls for 6 years. I started with polymer clay but moved into using air-dried clay after a couple of years. Drawings and paintings will be slower in coming as I find my voice in those media.

My goal is to make a unique and (sometimes) functional work of art that you can enjoy for years to come. Other than recycled materials (which will be noted in the description), I use the highest quality materials I can afford that will still keep the item price within a reasonable range. Some of the paper is handmade (purchased from a couple of preferred paper shops) and acid free. I use Wassau, Strathmore and Neenah text papers (in white and cream), Mohawk Natural Skytone parchment paper, Fabriano EcoWhite drawing paper, and Strathmore 400 watercolor paper. I can source a wide variety of papers, as needed, so please don't hesitate to ask if you need different paper.

For sculpting, I use both LaDoll/Premier and Creative Paper air-dry clays. I occasionally use Aves Apoxie Sculpt, as well, usually for embellishments on books. Embellishments, adornments, fabric, closures, and other decorations are all culled from my stash of vintage, new and junk items.

I prefer Derwent pencils (in almost all varieties), some Prismacolors, and a wide variety of surfaces for drawing, frequently scraps from book projects. I also enjoy digital drawing/painting on my tablet and/or graphics tablet as well as creating with encaustics.

My current turnaround time for custom orders is 10 weeks. I do my utmost to complete orders within the production schedule given. Sometimes unforeseen issues may arise (production problems with another custom order, materials back ordered, etc.) that could cause some delays. I will communicate regularly and give additional deadline estimates, if needed, whenever something affects production times.

Returns and exchanges
Customer satisfaction is extremely important to me. If you receive a ready-to-ship item and find that it wasn't what you expected, the colors are different than you thought (computer monitors aren't always accurate) or you just decide you don't want it, please contact me within 10 days to arrange a return. I will issue a refund or Lady Artisan credit (minus shipping costs) once I've received the item back (in its original condition). The item should be returned to me with insurance within 14 days after you contact me. After 14 days, I will only be able to issue a Lady Artisan credit (minus shipping costs). The credit can be used at any of my shops or my website. I will not refund if the item is lost or damaged in shipping on the way back to me if insurance was not purchased for it.

Custom items (including personalized items) are not returnable unless damaged in shipping. Damaged custom items can be returned for repair or replacement only and should not be sent back until I've had a chance to file an insurance claim.

If you need to cancel an order, please let me know as soon as possible. If I've shipped the item already, you will need to wait to receive it and then contact me for a return. If the item hasn't shipped, I will refund any payments made and cancel the order. For custom orders, once you've placed the order, 50% of the cost is non-refundable.

For layaways on ready-to-ship items, there is a 30% cancellation fee.

If you receive your item damaged, please contact me immediately! You can choose between receiving a full refund (minus shipping charges), a Lady Artisan credit (minus shipping charges) or I can repair or replace the item with a like item. Please remember that this is a handmade item and any replacement item may be similar but will not be exactly the same as the original. Damaged items may have been insured by the post office or a third party so please keep all packaging and the item until I've had a chance to file an insurance claim.

If you don't receive an item in a reasonable amount of time after it has shipped, please convo me with your concerns. I'll initiate a search with the post office which could take some time. If the item doesn't show up, I'll issue a credit or replace the item with a similar/similarly priced item of your choice. No credits, refunds or replacements will be issued until at least 30 days has passed after the expected delivery date for US orders and at least 60 days for international orders. I can't be held responsible for items lost or returned to me if the wrong address is given for shipping.
Payment
Payment should be made as soon as you've purchased the item and no later than three days after you've completed the Etsy transaction. If you need longer to pay, you can convo me to discuss payment options.

Layaway is available for any item over $125. Ready-to-ship items require a minimum of 1/3 down for the initial payment. Custom orders require a minimum of 1/2 down for standard turnaround time and payment in full up front for Rush orders. The balance can be split into 2 or 3 payments, whichever you need. Your balance must be paid off in 60 days for ready-to-ship items and by the time your item is completed for custom orders. There is a 5% layaway fee for the service which will be added to your down payment. Please see the section on Refund Policy for information on cancelling a layaway.

For credit cards by phone, check the "other" option under payment and then call me at 210-464-3691 and I will take your card over the phone.

Tax will be added to orders purchased by anyone living in Texas.

Rush orders will incur a service fee on custom pieces. Rush fees are based on my current turnaround times and will be updated as that changed. At this time they are as follows:

Standard rush, 25% of the total cost of the item: more than 4 weeks but less than my current schedule (10 weeks)
Double rush, 30% of the total cost of the item: between 2 and 4 weeks
Triple rush, 40% of the total cost of the item: 2 weeks or less

All rush orders require a shipping upgrade to expedited shipping (USPS Express Mail).

I do NOT accept orders from or ship to certain countries and will cancel/refund any purchases made from or with a shipping address in the following countries:
Cuba, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, North Korea, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Italy

2014 Christmas Shipping Deadlines:
My minimum turnaround time is 8 weeks. My shipping deadlines are based on USPS shipping deadlines with an additional 2-day bumper to help ensure delivery in time. I'm happy to work with you to get your item to you in time but can only promise to ship by a specified time and follow up with USPS if anything goes wrong.

If you're ordering a premade item, please try to purchase 3 days prior to the shipping deadline so I have time to package and ship your item. For custom items, I'll list out ordering deadlines below.

I'm more than happy to discuss Rush options (Rush fees are listed in the Payment Policy section) if you need to order after one of the custom order deadlines. Any orders placed after their respective deadlines may be treated as standard orders and not expected to arrive in time for the holidays.

Current turnaround time for fully customized books is 10 weeks. Turnaround time for pre-made journals, leather cuffs and spiral notebooks is 4 weeks.

All in-stock items will be shipped within three business days after receipt of payment. Items paid for by e-check through Paypal or that incur a hold through Direct Checkout will be shipped as soon as the funds are released.

Custom orders for fully customized books can take from 8 to 10 weeks to complete unless I am inundated with orders, but I will be in contact with you throughout the process. Orders for pre-made journals with custom covers, leather cuffs and custom spiral notebooks can take from 2 to 4 weeks to complete unless I'm inundated with orders. If you're unsure of how long an item will take or need something done quickly, please contact me to discuss your concerns and needs.

The turnaround time will normally begin as soon as the item has been paid for (or the down payment has been made). However, if something prevents you from responding to my inquiries for decisions regarding fonts, designs, colors or any other part of the production process, the turnaround time will be pushed back until we've come to an agreement and you have approved the digital mock up.

Production and shipping time is determined on a first come, first served basis unless you request a RUSH on your order. I try to keep my current lead/production times updated at the top of my shipping policies. During busy times of the year (i.e., the holidays) productions times will usually be posted in my shipping policies and in my shop message on the home page.

My standard shipping method is USPS mail. I use First Class mail for items that are under 13 oz. All other items shipped in the US will be sent by Priority Mail. International Orders will be sent First Class if under 30 ounces and under $50. All other international orders will be shipped by Priority Express. All items are self-insured or insured by a 3rd party--these costs are included in your shipping fees.

Shipping costs include handling fees (packing supplies and time required to package properly, etc.).

International customs, duties, taxes and local postal fees are the responsibility of the buyer and are NOT included in any costs paid to me.

CUSTOM ORDERS:
I am streamlining my custom options for handbound books. I am happy to do a fully customized journal or sketchbook for you but can only accept a limited number of them per quarter. Please contact me for details regarding various paper types, fonts, sizes and custom add-ons (e.g., straps and buckles, metal corners, tea staining, etc.).

For pre-made journals with custom covers, I will be listing these books as I make them. Most of the sizes will be odd or off sizes since I'm using off all the leftover book board from previous projects. If you are looking for a particular size or number of pages, please contact me and I will try my best to accommodate you. You may need to request a fully customized book if you have multiple design elements you'd like me to include.

For leather cuffs, purses, and spiral notebooks, most listings will be pretty self-explanatory with what options are available.

I'm always happy to accommodate someone with an unusual design or idea so please don't hesitate to contact me to discuss your options.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT CUSTOM ITEMS:

NON-RETURNABLE
Custom items (including personalized items) are not returnable unless damaged in shipping. I try to send photos at key points during the process, if needed, and a final photo to shipping but can't guarantee that I can do this for every order, particularly rush orders. Once the item has been shipped, items cannot be returned unless damaged during shipping.

CHANGE REQUESTS
While I want to make sure that your item is exactly what you're looking for, some changes to a book cannot be made once certain elements have been completed (size and paper type cannot change once I've started the book, color can't be changed once the cover has been dyed, design cannot be changed once I've started carving and tooling, etc.) without additional fees to cover remaking the item.

For non-book items, I cannot change the design or colors after you have approved the digital mock up since working on the item can occur shortly after your approval.

Please make your choices carefully and communicate with me fully before I begin working on your item.

PRODUCTION TIMES
Production times vary depending on how full my schedule is. You will be given the production when you purchase the listing, if not before. Time is partially based on the timeliness of any input from you. If information requests are responded to slowly, this could push your production time back a little. If you have any questions about how long your custom item will take, please contact me for clarification.

CANCELLATION and NON-REFUNDABLE FEE
For all cancellations on custom work, 50% of the cost is non-refundable.

CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS
For items that require a choice (color, font, etc.), if no choice is included with the order and no response is given to information requests, I will make your item as close to the image in the first picture of the listing, sized according to your purchase and with leeway for artistic changes if some element is unavailable (e.g., your letter doesn't come in a particular font, a vintage element is no longer available, etc.). For personalized items with no letter information included, I will use the first letter of the first name of the person the item is being shipped to. If you purchase an item and make customization requests that normally require an additional cost (e.g., extra lettering, straps/closures, etc.) or extra information that I can't infer from your order, profile or shipping info, if no response is given to clarification or upgrade requests, I will cancel your order and refund your money.
