Announcement   I have a cat. She is a wonderful, friendly, lovable brown tabby. Her name is Buffy (after the Vampire Slayer!). She is a great companion. There is nothing more wonderful than a good cat. I will mention that I have lint brushes and rollers in every room, not just for cat hair, but for all the wool, threads, fibers, and glitter.

Some creatures are built around armatures, and some aren't. It depends mostly on their overall shape. Armatures give a needle-felted sculpture pose-ability.

Needle-felted dolls are made with wool, and a skin of Tussah silk. Their clothing is hand-sewn. All dolls have undergarments for modesty. Each doll takes between a week and two weeks to make. I design and fit clothing to each doll, since each doll is unique.
Some doll accessories are made from Polymer Clay clay.

Potholders are made from my own pattern, and I hand-make the bias binding in almost all cases to match or accent the potholder. The binding (trim) is hand-stitched on the back. Loops are large so that they can be hung easily on hooks or knobs.

I build the ceramics by hand in a small studio.

I do combine shipping costs and recycle shipping supplies when possible.

I will be happy to ship to other countries but I would need time to check the cost of doing so -- Let me know and I will check for you.

About

Lady Astarte Confidential

Just between us -

I love ceramics and sewing. I've sewed since I was a teenager and now my children are grown. My daughter recently told me that she loved that I made some of her clothes when she was a child, she thought it was so special. None of her friends' mothers made their clothes! It really *is* nice to have something handmade - something filled with love. That is the promise of unique handmade items.

The pleasures of life are in the small things. I hope you find the fun and the beauty I try to put into each of my items. I'm putting love into these items while you are sleeping, doing chores, taking care of your children. Really. Like the poem by Dylan Thomas, In My Craft Or Sullen Art, "for the lovers, their arms, who neither care nor heed my craft or sullen art". Of course, I"m here on Etsy hoping you will "heed my craft". I consider that the goal of the customer and the goal of the seller should be the same - a great product and service.

My daughter introduced me to Etsy. I totally love this site! She helped me set up the shop, and I totally love the community here. This is a major factor to me - the community, getting to know the buyers and sellers as people.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

How big are your balls? They are not that big! (Dryer Balls) They are needle felted throughout the process, and are quite firm and likely to last forever. You don't need bigger balls, you need more balls. They are typically about 1 oz, 8 inches in circumference.

Sizing details

How big are your potholders? They are typically 8 inch x 8 inch. They are made from my own pattern, which is essentially the same pattern that every other potholder is made from.

Gift wrapping and packaging

If you would like something gift-wrapped, contact me and I will do my best to accommodate you with the wrapping papers I have here, or tissue paper.

Gift wrapping and packaging

I try to ship economically and will use recycled papers, boxes, envelopes where possible. It's also good for the Earth. But, if the best way is to use a priority mail envelope/box then I will use that. I try to make this the best experience possible for you.

Care instructions

I include care instructions with every set of dryer balls.

Care instructions

Potholders should be taken care of as you would any potholder, except the applique potholders, that should be washed and dried gently.

Care instructions

Needle felted animals and dolls should be handled gently and dusted often if they are on display.
